  1. Thanks Jack. I'm going to do it the easy way and install my 6 volt tach and then do the math.
  2. I found the answer thanks to FORDification.com of all places. When a 4.3 rear end car is in OD the ratio becomes 3.01. This is determined by simply multiplying the 4.3 x .7 ...... Yahoo !
  3. Another question.........? With the overdrive engaged what would the final drive ratio be ? A standard trans would be 1 to 1 final drive. I'm just trying to calculate the rpm's with my new 205/75-15 tires at 27.11" diameter when in overdrive.
  4. My plastic panels are long gone and a previous owner covered them with off white grainy vinyl. Crappy job. All of the dash knobs have turned to dust. Is anyone making new reproductions knobs ? I'm going to remove the vinyl from the two panels and paint them a cream color.
  5. Thanks again Rusty ! I offered the seller $8 instead of the $12 he was asking and it's on it's way now. It takes 3 pints so I'm still searching for another quart.
  6. Thanks for your response Rusty ! I'd love to go by the manufacturers recommendation but can't seem to find SAE No 70 Aircraft Engine Oil or it's equivalent. Any ideas ?
  7. I'm getting ready to change all the fluids in my recently purchased 1939 Chrysler Royal with the R7 Overdrive trans. The owners manual recommends "S.A.E. No. 70 Aircraft engine oil" or to substitute "No. 70 engine oil" Is this what would be called today W70 non detergent oil er what ??? Any recommendations ? I'm wondering why just regular 80W90 gear oil wouldn't work. Thanks
  8. ???Who is Wayne??? I did a compression test and they all range between 90 - 95 psi. Yahoo....Good news ! I'm going to have to buy new tires for the car. Right now it has some old polyester cord bias ply L78-15's on the "Truespoke" wire wheels. Too wide in my opinion. What would a narrower size be in a wide white wall radial ? The taller the better. Or ,better yet, who has a set of original 16" rims for sale for this car ?
  9. Today she's going up on my car lift for a brake bleed, adjust and inspection. After that I'll warm her up and do a compression test. I'm assuming somewhere around 90 to 100 psi would be healthy. Anybody know what the psi would be when new ? On another note the dash knobs have mostly crumbled away. Is anyone reproducing these. I tried the search function and nothing turned up. Thanks
  10. Wow, The car just arrived today and is better than expected. I also discovered it is equipped with an overdrive !!! The seller never mentioned that in his ad. I haven't driven the car yet so I don't know if the OD actually works. Got my fingers crossed though.
  11. Wow ! 3.78 would be perfect but unfortunately I'm way over here in California.
  12. Here's a comp. I just paid $8500 for this one. http://www.ebay.com/itm/131584989690?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
  13. Hello there, I just purchased a '39 Chrysler royal and wondered if anyone here knows what the standard rear end ratio would be. I'm hoping it's a little better than 4.11 for an occasional freeway run. Thanks in advance ! Reg
  14. oops ! the # is 121710940366.....sorry
  15. Anybody here need one of these ? I'm rounding up some dollars for a rebuild on my '33 Plymouth. eBay item # 12170940366
  16. Great photo. Can you send that directly to me at rego@hughes.net ? Thanks.
  17. Yes Tod. I think it is time for another reunion of the '33's. Maybe a little rack time too ?
  18. Thanks Dodge KCL for the info. Yes Tod. The one on my car has the fin on top. The best I can tell is it's a C6J1 or C6O1. It's stamped on the edge of the fin so it's tough to read. It does have the smaller stud spacing of approx. 2 3/4" so not sure if the base was just put on a later model carb. It needs a rebuild as even when the idle air mixture screw is screwed all the way in the engine still runs. The engine does have a miss to it with this carb no matter how that screw is adjusted so it needs a good cleaning. I borrowed a Stromberg from my 35 Dodge and it runs perfectly with it so I'm sure I don't have a vacuum leak on the engine. Not sure what I'm going to do yet but I have thought about using a later model intake with the larger carb stud spacing. Can you send me some photos of that air cleaner you have Tod ? rego@hughes.net
  19. Well crap ! The carb arrived yesterday and it does not fit the smaller intake stud spacing. The seller listed it as fitting 33-35 Plymouth 6. WRONG ! Anyone have a carter C6A2, A3, or A4 they'd like to sell ?
  20. Thanks Jon ! I guess I'll be able to just remove the Southwind fitting. Say.....do you have any Carter C6A2's, A3's or A4's ?
  21. I purchased this Carter BnB C6D2 carb yesterday for my '33 Plymouth and am wondering what the function of the brass cylinder with small copper tube is ? It was advertised as manufactured for a 1933-35 Plymouth.
  22. ThanksTod. Do you know if this trans was used in other than 33 models ?
  23. Thanks guys for the advice. Yes, I would like to purr along at 55 or 60 without spinning the engine at 3000rpm. At 60 with the stock 4.375 rear gears and 28.5" diam. tires the engine is spinning at 3100 rpm. Too busy for my liking. Now today I have developed a different problem. The trans is jumping out of gear in 1st and 2nd under a load even when I hold the gear shift in place. What's causing that ??? Is it time for a rebuild? Anyone have a spare '33 PD trans ???
  24. Hi there, I'm trying to improve the top end speed without winding the little 189ci. engine too much. I was trying to install a complete rear end from a 50 Plymouth with a 3.9 ratio but discovered that it was too wide and the drums won't work with my stock 17" wire wheels. Has anyone here found something that works ? By the way. I have a 50's Plym rear end for sale with turned drums, new brake shoes, wheel cylinders, axle and pinion seals. 3.9 ratio $150.00
