  1. First, let me say, I got it working... Now, the story! I purchased an Oil Pressure Switch from Autozone $19, good deal I thought. Then I came home and cracked the book looking for the location of the switch on the engine. The book showed two parts, a switch for the light and a sender for the guage. Darn, I bought the wrong part! So I called my local Chrysler dealer and ordered the sending unit. When I went in today to pick it up, it looked just like the switch I'd purchased from Autozone! So I said, I bought a switch already, I need a sending unit, it looks like a bell (according to the book, I had yet to open the hood on the car) He said, they changed the design years ago, and that if you have a two connector plug, it's both a switch and a sender. Great, I had already both one from Autozone for $19, but a $40 part from Chrysler must be better. Get home, take out the old switch/sender screw in the Chrysler part, put it all back together and take it out for a test drive. Key in on position, Oil Pressure light on, car started, light off, COOL. Look at the guage... Zero presure... DAMN! Turn the car off check the connections, (break the connector tab DAMN) still no go on pressure. What the heck, let me try the $19 autozone part... Works like a charm! There you have it, another fun adventure in TC Land!
  2. I had to purchase it from a Dealer $40, it will be here tomorrow... Oil Pressure Sending Unit. I should have looked at my service manual before I went to AutoZone.
  3. So I went to autozone and picked up an "Oil Pressure Switch" is this the right part to be replacing?

  5. Just to add a little more data... My TC has become my daily driver since I gave my pickup took swimming lessons over the Labor Day weekend. When I started it this moring, pressure was right in the middle of the scale. After the engine warmed up, it starting doing the "pressure dance" but this time a 1000 RPM instead of 2000 RPM. jeff
  6. I know this was covered in a recent posting, but I just started having oil pressure gauge trouble myself and thought I'd get some feedback from people that know more about this engine than I. In any gear from idle to about 2050 RPM the gauge reads zero pressure, at which point it jumps to the mid range. As soon as it shifts to the next gear the pressure drops to zero again until the RPM rises again to around 2050-2100 RPMs. So what do you think, instrumentation issue or oil pump? I checked the oil level, it looks fine, I looked under the engine, no huge oil leak. 1989 Turbo 4, automatic, common block. jeff
  7. Mine has always worked as you describe. The gas struts should hold the cover in the open position.

  9. Sorry about the down-time. My DNS host went AWOL... I just checked and it appears to be working again. If anyone has projects they'd like posted, I'd be happy to host them. jeff
  10. I second that motion! Here Here! You two are the BEST!
  11. So, it's time to start driving my TC again and I have two issues I'm working on... 1) The automatic transmission downshift cable is not releasing as easy as it should. It's got some "drag" to it... Is there supposed to be a spring up in the throttle body that pulls this cable back when you let off the gas? There is a post that looks like it holds a spring. 2) When I took off my door panel, the insulation has turned to black tary gunk... How to I replace this stuff? Is the panel insulation a stock part?
  12. Hrm... Wrench between two post on the battery of my 65 Rambler Wrench between starter and ground on my 76 Monza Nicked the wastegate hose on my 79 Capri turbo, 15lbs of boost... Fast but deadly Stopped working on my own cars <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
  13. Note, that the illuminated color of most of the gauges that fit are green not orange like our TCs. I had to switch out the faceplates of the gauges I replaced.
  14. Have you tried to "cycle" the rear latches? I'd press and hold the down button until you hear two clicks, then press and hold the up button until the whirring stops.
  15. I've often thought real wood would be a great addition to the car. Sadly, my woodworking skills are not up to the task <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
  16. You can probably see the "wood" trim on my site... I'm pretty sure the only real wood is the gear shift knob. My Home Page
  17. I'll take a look at mine tomorrow morning. Oh BTW, Larry has forgotten more about TCs than I'll ever learn, trust his posts more than mine!
  18. Hey, at least now I know for sure I have the common block motor. Larry, you're the man! If someone else has a digital camera and wants to take photos, I'd be happy to host them. Maybe we can collect all of the permutations and combinations. jeff
  19. I have posted a "project" on my website that has high resolution photos. Please note that the "wastegate control" is not hooked as usual, I have a boost valve installed. http://www.backesfamily.com/TCProjects/index.html Let me know if you need any additional photos. Oh, and while looking at the photos I noticed that I'm missing a few of those foam vacuum hose filter thingies.
  20. I read with interest this quarter's TC newsletter about repairing the bubbles in the TC Portholes. Can someone please clarify for me that it is possible to do this procedure from outside the vehicle? I was under the impression that I was going to have to remove the headliner, but from what I read that's not the case. I want to make a "project" out of this for my web-site, but I don't want to get off on the wrong foot. Thanks, and happy holidays!
  21. The BackesFamily TC Projects page is back on line, that's for the heads up.
  22. Thanks for pointing out that my website was (is still) down. I'll be working on getting it back online this weekend. Until then I have mirrored the site on the TCAmerica site. http://www.chryslertcbymaseraticlub.com/memberProjects/jeffBackes/index.html
  23. I thought I'd start a thread that EVERYONE can contribute! My best TC memory had to be driving on Route 66 - a classic car on a classic road.
