  1. I priced a 6 speed 5.7 challenger with 20" wheels for under 37k. so hows that over priced ? you dont get jack for under 45k today and thats entry level for real performance. the thing goes 170, the 6.1 goes 180... for 10 miles an hour difference, I'll save the insurance money and go with the 5.7.. which is still a better value than any new vette. hey I am still scratching my head wondering why the buick wildcat [think pontiac banshee] never happened.... from GS to GN to the reatta.... now we have nothing!!!
  2. I officially pulled the plug on GM [buick] 3 years ago. our reattas were fun, but extremely problematic, including the low mileage ones. my wifes ranier , not so much either... driver heated seat went up in flames and wrecked the lumber support. wheres the pride in a chevy 350 in my buick ? answer: none what so ever... GM is wasting their time badging corporate cars to satisfy consumer brand loyalty. all told... I still considered a GMC truck... drove a couple and was disappointed. I opted for an '05 ram daytona which has been very good to me... I am third generation buick... I bled the tri-shield... but have seen enough of mismanagement and the practice of being too early or way too late in market trends. the new buick cars look like fords, and their suvs are simply rebadges of the chevy line. corporate motors dont appeal to me. it seemed to me GM was better served with the friendly rivalries between the lines. I sold my beautiful '71 skylark custom last year.. am looking to sell my '71 gs convert this year [should the moon and stars align properly of course.] I am buying a hemi challenger in spring and the metamorphosis will be complete. hopefully, my wife can off her ranier and pick up a new chrysler suv. to hear that GM may be purchasing chrysler was sickening to me. where the hell is the pride in owning a chrysler made by a company that cant run its own lines. further, what kind of cosmic event has taken place that GM is putting buick badges on a trail blazer , or pontiac badges on a saturn designed convert ? crazy to think they may be in a position to offer a hemi in a vette or a GM vortec in a mopar body design.... you can thank your government as well as nafta for allowing the japs to come here and set up shop building cars and sending the money back to the land of the rising sun. its high time we make it a bit tougher for the Japanese to peddle their wares stateside as the world does to us with everything we make. GM, chrysler and ford have no body to blame but themselves for letting the Japanese get a foot in our door. what worse is the entire U.S. car market jumped the gas price gun dropping what has been their niche the past decade. gas will inevitably go back up..but to what degree? certainly it would have made better business sense to stay the course than the route thats been chosen... we saw this in the 70s...... big and quality made cars thrown to the wayside for crummy compacts that barely made it through the warranty... quality has been on the way up for quite a while now... breaking the unions grip on the auto makers would also be a shot in the arm for them. anyway... thats my take on it...
  3. this squeeky clean GS was sold new at the now defunct deane buick dealership in denver colorado. the original owner owned this approx. until 1984 and was then sold to the gentleman [also in colorado] that I bought the car from in 2003. it has never seen road salt or a winter and has been garaged much of its 38 years of life. owners manual packet w/protecto booklet, 2 showroom catalogs,'71 paint code booklet and service manual included. receipts dating back to 1984. 1 of 656 made by model, but break down the options and I am sure this cars production numbers become quite lower. OPTIONS INCLUDE: 15x7 chrome road wheels,N-25 rear bumper, chrome passenger mirror, front and rear chrome bumperettes, power windows,A/C,power trunk, map light rear view mirror, cruise control, 3 spoke sport steering wheel, tach, gauges, stereo AM /FM radio, factory sway bar and boxed control arms, 3;08 non posi rear end. the odometer turned over last year and reads 1100. the mileage is actual. the motor was professionally rebuilt in '91 or '92 [receipts confirm] no smoke, no oil consumption, you can get in this car and drive anywhere . transmission shifts great and an hei was installed prior to my ownership. the suspension is tight, the car tracks well ,and she moves ! the original color of the car was limemist green, but the older repaint showing its age is almost a verde mist green. you wont find a cleaner convertable rust wise. the top is 100% functional and was replaced at some point. the original boot should be replaced. I have been collecting buicks since 1984 and have owned over 70 of them. I have quite a parts stash that I am including with the car. from NOS floor mats to radiator overflow reservoir , to the simplest of interior pieces, the bases are covered for any resto work one may want to do. from genuine NOS and fine used GM parts for this car, to NOS>aftermarket brake, motor, heater, soft trim, ignition etc. to keep the car on the road . you wont begin to ever use them up. I estimate having 10K+ of parts that go with the car. I havent begun to catalog the parts but will be doing so in short order to bolster the cars sale. NO >I WILL NOT SEPARATE THE PARTS FORM THE CAR. NO> YOU CANT BUY THIS OR THAT FROM THE PARTS LIST. I am looking to end my 25 years of buick-ing in one sale. with the cost of NOS parts today, one could easily offset any moneys spent selling unneeded or duplicate parts. I am simply moving on to other endeavors in life. and have come to the realization that I no longer have the time or interest to send her off to paint. this car is VERY presentable as she stands, I get tons of compliments when shes out on the road. I always found it difficult to part with my cars [especially converts] during the summer months which is when most want to do the car. this cars sale is not by necessity, as such I am not entertaining offers. I've seen recent gs' needing ground up restos go for far more . you could certainly spend less as well, but would likely get a midwestern salt infested bondo buggy with a list of mechanical problems. get in ,turn the key and drop that top today !!! 30K firm. serious inquiries please. please email me : talk2chaos at yahoo dot com for pictures car will be shown by appointment only. I can be reached at 414-940-9471 [car trader magazines needn't call] and am located in south eastern wisconsin. if your serious about a GS convertable this is a very nice alternative to the stage or 455 converts fetching crazy money today.
  4. it is definitely not hunter green say for late '71-2... I have a bunch of nos mats for late '71 as thats what my drop top gs is. it was more of what I call the '70- mid '71 green with a bit of a blue to the green... but by no means was it blue or aqua.... somewhere in between white and light green tri-shield , it is a '67 mat and matched my old '67's interior exactly. the mat has been sold...
  5. nos in the original box.... "buick" trunk deck emblem for '71 skylark...$35 plus shipping. [please dont make me dig for the part number as the part is in the attic, rest assured I know what I have] email me direct at: talk2chaos at yahoo dot com. thanks, john

  8. NOS dark green overall floormat with trishield in center for '67 buick. no part number sticker on original box. purchased from the buick farm a decade ago. it was listed to fit skylark/special/sportwagon. I checked it for fit in a '71 skylark and it seemed fine and cant see any reason this wouldnt fit in a fullsize buick. it does have the notch cut on the drivers side which is correct for '68 and earlier gas pedals. though not 100% correct it will fit in '69 newer buicks. $135 plus shipping firm. I can be reached direct at: talk2chaos at yahoo dot com thanks, john
  9. I am a 3rd gen buick owner..I have owned 76 buicks mainly A bodies with a few '63-66 rivs and gs cats or 225's mixed in. and thats not including 4 past reattas and the ranier my wife currently drives . I have been patiently waiting for a "stylish" 2DOOR buick or somewhat performance buick since the demise of reatta & riviera. the concept wildcat [think pontiac banshee] never materialized and the supposed rear wheel drive platform of late was canned. so....I moved on and bought a new dodge ram daytona in '05. it was the hardest purchase I ever had to make. mind you I love this truck. old habits are hard to break especially when it comes to my buicks. buick has always played second fiddle to cadillac even though at times our sales were better. my thoughts are the 30 somethings at gm designing the new buicks are out of touch with not only the old guard but the new as well... lucerne and the cast of early 90s ford looking cars being rammed down our throats are nothing short of a joke. rehashing the aurora and slamming a buick emblem on it is ridiculous. I was told by gm that if I wanted a 2 door i should buy a pontiac or chevy.. buy a GTO ? not a chance its a quick ride for sure but looks like the sun chickens of the '80s. buy an XLR ? nah I'd viper it long before that. truth be told, after owning nothing but buicks seems as foreign to me as being air dropped into a middle eastern country and expecting no one to notice you. I can say without hesitation that until GM finds a way to please the sports car minded buick fan, I will not spend another dime on a gm product. I wont buy chevy or pontiac simply because after all the years of gm pitting one against the other , I cant see moving to another product simply because theyre crapping on the buick people. our ranier has been pretty good [even with the corporate chevy motor] but next year we are trading her in and we've already decided on volkswagon touareg or possibly a mopar suv provided it meets our needs. I should also mention, that I am in the market for a newer muscle car. looked at the daytona chargers during my truck purchase in late '05 and loved the car in and out, but couldnt bring myself to drive a 4 door... I am buying a challenger next spring and already am on the list to do so.. sad thing is I love my gm dealer, william doll buick/pontiac has been very good to me over the years and its unfortunate they wont be getting our money next year on one or 2 potential purcheases. I can understand the merging of the gm lines from a business standpoint but, from a marketing standpoint they cut their own throats, because some will never accept a "corporate compromise buick" and I am one of those.
  10. what happened to the bca or buick only classifieds ? its beena while since I've logged into the bca, did we get swallowed up into a universal forum ?

  15. unfortunate that green is not to your liking, as that was the most popular color for that time frame. especially with the "older" buick jetset, and are usually found in the nicest shape.. if you change your mind... I have one mid way your price range that you likley will never find better representation of. there was a time that I too detested green <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> given the chance, it can grow on you.....especially lime mist. now I have 3 of them ! happy holidays, john
  16. 17. well our last reatta sold about an hour ago....kinda bitter sweet actually. after 14 years we are done with reatta collecting, but one never knows where life will take ya... down the road should the right '91 convert come our way, man, we may have to throw our hats back into the mix !! so with that said , my wife and I wanted to especially thank barney e. and a cast of many others who have made our online reatta experience a pleasure. from simple resto tips to vin# info, this site has made life a bit easier at times !! this little chunk of cyberspace is a wealth of "friendly" buick knowledge, we have certainly made some lasting friendships. maybe we see some of you around at the buick meets in the coming months/years. just look for the twins, green '71 gs' and stop by... best and merry christmas to all, john & monica p.s. barney email me for the new owners location and names so you can update you vin log... talk2chaos at yahoo dot com
  18. 1989 reatta for sale.. black with tan interior. runs strong with no smoke or oil consumption. 133k miles. very straight car, paint is in fair to good shape. theres some clear coat peel that started on the hood this past summer, other than that a very presentable daily driver. everything works, but A/C needs a recharge. , 16 way drivers seat. interior is clean, very nice steering wheel,we replaced the headliner this past summer. leather is very good...tail light assy is very good, headlight motors work without issue. tires are goodyear regattas with about 30k on them. brakes done a year ago. recent tune and oil change. new wires & plugs., newer battery, cat converter at 99k miles lots of receipts. also due to a misdiagnosis by a local mechanic and this mechanic not taking our/this forums advice on a pcv valve hose that came unplugged [thus idling with a miss] I ended up having to pay for a timing change replacement at 105k. she's a good daily driver . this is the last our 4 reattas, its been a fun 14 yrs with them, but time to move on... I am including whatever we have laying for extra parts for them... I collect buick gs cars so parts is parts, you snap them up when you can... we spared no expense on our reattas either. $2500 please email me direct at; XXXXX thanks and merry christmas ! john
  19. after all the reading, much of what I wanted to say has been covered. but I would like to add that should buick actually go the way of the dinosaur .. "I will never buy another GM product" and GM can take that to the bank. I was p.o.'d when they consolidated the car lines and made "our" buick engineered 3.8 a corporate fries and shake motor... thanks for the memories buick engineers , now go home.... I am a third generation buick owner and our '04 ranier is my 80th buick. hell, I have never owned anything but a buick !!! we drove the escalade last fall "just for grins" and I will say our ranier is head and shoulders above the escalade in every way . so much is made about buick wanting to be cadillac.... on the contrary, its buick being held back everytime they outshine cadillac... case in point the reatta program killed largely in part because they were out selling its sister lines allante. oldmobile didnt need to go away, neither does pontiac or buick.... but in case someone at GM is reading this, "nobody needs 5-6 ,4 door alternatives and 3 SUV choices in EVERY GM line"... GM has a history of being the last one to read the writing on the wall, they have created all of their own problems. we had the 455 electras well after the gas crunch, likely GM will have a plethora of suv's long after the market has once again downsized... though only 40, I am about as "old school buick" as one could be, there is a history here and I appreciate this line and the joy it has given me over the years... I would never even consider owning a chevy or a pontiac to me, both of those lines have always meant going the "cheap" route as a car buyer . one thing we have to remember here is this is no longer divisions competing against each other for sales, this is corporate politics putting different emblems on the same friggin cars and the new generation of management that reads the bottom line calling the shots... if its a rumor, its likely going to happen. john jaco gsca #385 '71 gs convertable '71 skylark custom '89 reatta '04 ranier
  20. lime mist factory hard top, '71 skylark custom with 64K original miles..no rust.. under carriage is still the factory black. a very clean well maintained car...still smells new in side, original chrome is stunning... all original cloth interior shows some wear on front seat only, otherwise flawless inside... doors close as new, runs and drives out like new... NOS floor mats.....owners manual, P-O-P, no window sticker...has RWD, a/c blows cold . nice goodyears, still has original brake shoes , no brake issues whatsoever, but its getting to be time for replacement... I bought this car with 39k miles in CO., I know the previous owner and can say this car has been garaged since '90 . it has never seen a winter which is evident by the ridiculous clean underbody, trunk pan, and core support. I drove it back and forth from colorado to wisconsin in summer, and have put maybe 2k on it since '01.. 99% of the mileage I have put on it is light hwy. driving.. I have owned this car since '94 and can trace previous back to original... this car is a very presentable turn key.... $8k firm/ no offers . you simply wont find a cleaner car. "no tire kickers" or overseas scammers please. I am selling the car because I have a '71 gs convert and am in the process of adding a '70 gsx... I just dont have the room for 3, plus 2 daily driving buicks. email me direct for additional info , pictures & phone # . talk2chaos@yahoo.com thanks, john jaco, WI. /gsca # 385
