  1. Book your room in January, on a booking service like Expedia- with free cancellation. Many of the hotels “forget” to Jack their rates for a few months at the start of the year. Like anything else, it pays to prepare in advance.

  2. Thursday was cool and it rained at noon. Vendor count a bit sparse in the top and back of the North field.Friday dawned with glorious sunshine and the crowds responded. At times it was shoulder to shoulder in the swap meet field. I bought parts for ‘35-‘36 Chevy trucks and ‘41-‘46 Chevy trucks. The stuff is widely variable and it was quite entertaining to shop. It’s not Hershey (what else is?), but add the gate admission and the nearby parking and you have the $20 ransom Herco gets for parking at Hershey. You won’t find a better bargain for a long, tiring day of walking! Keep on Rolling.

  4. Ok, I can picture this hanging on the windshield frame of some late 20’s touring car. No doubt to help compensate for the car’s ineffective headlights. It has no maker’s mark. Does anyone have any information about this light, or a picture with a similar light mounted on a car.

    Thanks!!!!

  5. The Saturday swap meet and car corral were like nothing I’ve ever seen at Charlotte. Sparse trending to deserted. Sad, but Covid and other factors have taken its toll. I know the region is at the mercy of the facility owner- but $15 gate fees and (very) poorly maintained portable toilets mean next year is likely to be worse. Very sad.

  6. Agreed. You never know what will show up at Carlisle. Fall Carlisle will have more olde antique parts as many vendors sell at Carlisle and then move onto Hershey. The Luray (VA) pre-war swap meet is another option, although it’s heavily weighted to Ford. My advice would be to join the Buick discussion group here and elsewhere; and attend as many large events as you can. Good luck!

  7. Outside swap meet fields are sparse (Friday); we got inside the track long enough to see the spaces there seem full. What I saw of the car corral does look light. NTL, going back on Saturday for the inside swap meet and the AACA show. The weather is chilly compared to previous years, but no rain!

  8. You just never know. Several years ago, a vendor in one of the back fields sold me a Becker Mexico radio with a large Bakelite speaker enclosure. All for $20. They joked about being able to get another case of beer. The radio traced to mid 1970’s European sports cars and the speaker to late 1950’s Mercedes. The radio went to the UK and the speaker to the UAE. And not for beer money. You have to walk every aisle and look in every space.

  9. Wow, so many negative vibes. After missing it for 2 (Covid)years , we will be happily making the trek from north central Maryland. It’s typically warmer there, but this year it looks like a high temp of about 60. (Pack the sweatshirt)

The two swap meet fields behind the track are very much reminiscent of Hershey. Inside the track, there are a lot of shared spaces with car folks hanging out.
We might walk the 1.5 mile track to see the various muscle cars for sale, but that’s optional.

The AACA show on Saturday is always a treat.

Like Spring Carlisle, it’s a large event that caters to so many tastes. Both are well run and both are still great events in their own right.

Are they Hershey? No, only Hershey will claim that title.

  10. I guess if you’re in Kansas you can now rivet the VIN plate right on that Dynacorn body and go. Seriously, there have been a few occasions where high dollar muscle cars have undergone this treatment and then offered for sale as restored original cars. There will always be ways for knowledgeable folks to detect this- so check with your State’s MVA first- and be upfront with any potential buyer.

  11. Thanks. I got them at the Maple Grove (PA) swap meet this morning. 39 degrees with a delightful breeze about 8pm- yeah, windchill. By the time everyone started leaving about noon, it was a downright balmy 45!

Huge turnout for both sellers and buyers. As always, a mix of race car parts and antique parts.

And some antique folks having a good time!

  12. Do you feel lucky? Check out Greyhound Package Express. They go bus station to bus station. Coast to coast takes, well 1-3 weeks/ depending upon how long they sit in the middle of the country looking for the next bus. They have improved their tracking system, but I wouldn’t ship a human heart needed for a life saving transplant. You would probably strap 2 tires together and have 2 shipments. I have shipped several fenders and they haven’t lost anything….yet.

  13. Snow at  Carlisle?

Of course, 1993 was the most memorable year. Snow, rain, sunshine- and more.

Now the weather today at the New Jersey AACA swap meet near Cowtown was barely tolerable- but didn’t deter buyers or sellers.

Carlisle weather typically leaves you shaking your head, but we dress for the worst and peel the layers like an onion.

  14. I would certainly change your Wednesday-Thursday to Thursday-Friday. On Wednesday you will wonder why you are walking miles and miles past spaces where the vendor hasn’t arrived. As for hotels, the rooms close to the fairgrounds are not the greatest and over priced. I suggest Camp Hill. It’s an easy drive and less expensive. But please go. It ain’t Hershey, but it’s still Carlisle!

  15. Coker tire has just what you want, and only $284 each. I can only imagine the shipping. Maybe you should plan a trip to Hershey 2022, and shove them in your luggage going home.

Either way, your Allstate tires were most likely sold by Sears during the Eisenhower administration- so drive sparingly, and very slow, until you replace them.

  16. Swap meets that are well run are enjoying a bounce while poor management at eBay has chased away both buyer and seller. Of course, Covid has had a tremendous effect- witness the reduced spectator count at Hershey. Demographics will certainly dictate what buyers look for and sellers provide. Take the opportunity to buy and enjoy what you like, and don’t worry so much about what others are, or are not, buying.

As for pre-war swap meets, check out the growing event at Luray, VA.
