  1. The online coverage with proxy bid was excellent. You could also listen live or watch the video feed; and jump back to the catalog to see upcoming lots. It looks like the top selling item was the 1937 airstream trailer at $155k. (Even without a vin plate or title?!?). As with all auctions, some sales are puzzling. The So-Cal Speed Shop license tag bracket for $500 seemed weird, they sell online for $12.
You have to wonder how many items were prize funds at (many) past Hershey’s. Signs of a life well enjoyed.

We were in the red field by the arena where the Hersheyworld music was blaring at ear splitting volume. We sympathized with the vendor in front of us, and they shared that the broadcast started at 7am sharp and stopped at 11 pm. I hope for their sanity they get a new spot next year. The weird thing was in other parts of the field you couldn’t hear a thing. So that should be remembered if anyone thinks it a good place for disabled parking and staying.

In the Green field, we struggled to hear the National Anthem. I missed not hearing the soothing voice of the regular Hershey Region announcer. Maybe next year they will get the volume balanced out.

The honor and respect of slogging through a job working with your hands doesn't exist anymore.

Interestingly, a good mechanic, plumber, or truck driver very often makes more money, and have much more job satisfaction than most of the people with the alphabet soup letters next to their name. Most of whom accomplish nothing with their life.

Look at 80 percent of todays college graduates.............lazy and living proof you can edjucate an idiot.

I must have 2 of the 20%. They both worked hard to get engineering degrees. Both work very hard all day and love to work on their cars.

  4. That’s fine; and it’s nice to see the HERCO was flexible and understanding. Prior to the meet, it looked like the major tents would have to be erected Monday morning and taken down Friday evening. The vast majority of us can load our things Friday afternoon and disappear.

No doubt, Hershey has intentions of improving the Park and increasing the tourist business. My wife insisted upon 2 trips to Chocolate World- primarily to ride the ride! She did manage a few candy purchases.

Next year we’ll all be pro at this Monday-Friday thing.

  5. Hershey will always be an enigma. People love to complain about it; and can’t wait to come back. The Region works incredibly hard so you can enjoy your 1-5 days here. They will keep doing it as long as their landlord permits; and maybe somewhere else in the unlikely event the landlord does not. In the end, it’s the fellowship that people come for; and that won’t change.

  6. Just in case you want to know the plight of all Hershey vendors, and spectators. Today dawned wet with light drizzle until about 7:00. We left our warm hotel and headed to the green field. It was chilly but dry as we arrived; and set up our tables. Later in the morning it started to drizzle/ ever so slightly. One of those days you debate on closing up, but you don’t. About noon it started to brighten; and actually caught a brief glimpse of the sun. Later in the afternoon the temperature dropped and by 4pm it started to spit rain again. We closed up at 5. Tomorrow promised to be much better/ but promises can be broken. Congrats to the hearty soles that walked the fields today. We were all rewarded with a beautiful sunset.

  7. As a vendor, I agree. You see some conveyances with 3-4 able-bodied men riding together. Of course, the Region is limited by the ADA, their person-power limitations, and the sheer magnitude of the issue. The large size of the swap meet fields and the fairly sparse crowd is a mitigating factor. It’s important to protect yourself while on foot. I somewhat sympathize with them on one score- after walking 2 days at Carlisle on much more hilly terrain, we walked 4 miles Monday before setting up. My legs were just shot from too much - all in a row. However, there is no doubt that riding in a golf cart is the WORST way to shop the swap meet field. You need to WALK into each vendor space to fully take in the items for sale. So those who should be walking and choose to ride are simply missing the boat- so to speak. For those who are truly in need, thanks for coming. If we could limit the use to the small 3-wheel mobility scooters, perhaps.that would help. It’s the Region’s call.
