1. From the album: Chevrolet

44,000 original miles, original paint, interior, mechanics, all history back to new.
2. Too bad. I would have enjoyed viewing historical Hot Rods in a place where they could have been featured in the correct perspective. Every year I look forward to seeing the historic race cars. To me, that is the best part of the show. --------------------------------- "When you ride with Bill Maher, you ride with a fruitcake"
3. Sky- I haven't gotten the exact dates yet, but it is usually the weekend following July 4th.
4. SSG Rock- I am interested in your engine. Please click on "Brassbus" above my picture to contact me. Thanks- BB
5. You may be right. The poll that [color:\\"red\\"] PeterG is conducting on R&R only has 30 votes total. It doesn't look like members care about it one way or another.
6. I understood class 37 to encompass documented historic Hot Rods that were built no later than 1974, from pre-1949 cars... period. If that is the definition of the class, I support it. If the loose interpretations of the class that I have been reading lately are accurate, I do not support it.
7. Forgive me if it is not my place to post this here, but I thought it was important. [color:\\"red\\"] PeterG has posted a poll on the Rant & Rave section to ask if the entire forum should be restricted to posts by registered users only. Lots of users don't visit the R&R, so I am posting this as a heads up. Registered and unregistered users alike can vote, but only one vote per IP address.
8. Has the 2003 membership renewal form been sent yet? I always manage to throw it out with all the junk mail that is packed in with the magazine. Wouldn't it be better if the form was printed on the last page of the magazine so it would always be accessable? BB in NE
9. I attended my neighbor A. K. Miller's auction a few years back, and was curious what the status was of the cars now. Have they been restored by any members here, or were any of them sold to parts unknown? A few in particular that I remember were two Black Hawk Boattails, all those Bearcats, the great supercharged 1930 coupe, and the red and blue 1922 touring that he was in the process of restoring himself. Being at his auction was one of my best old car memories. What a scene... complete with Federal agents! Gotta love A.K.. He was a character. I still have the Christie's auction catalog and enjoy looking through it from time to time.
10. I haven't heard much about them lately, but the LOJACK theft recovery system seemed to have an excellent record. A small sending devise attached to the vehicle transmits a signal that can be tracked by police when a phone call activates it. It is after the fact, but if I had all that money tied up in a tow rig/show winner, I'd seriously consider it. I just searched for them and they do still exist at: http://www.lojack.com/foryou/lojack.htm.
11. Come on, Dave. You admitted right here a long time ago what your politics are. I didn't say that your concepts on this thread are liberal. I said that your hammering away on this topic was typically liberal. Some of us just [color:\\"red\\"] disagree with you, and you can't stand it! I know! Why don't you organize a sit down strike at the next Hot Rod Nationals! You could make up signs saying "Don't believe the hype!", and chain yourself to the bumper of a chopped Willys coupe, while chanting "No originality, no peace!" It would be groovy! You could stay up until the wee hours holding hands, singing sensitive and reflective songs like "Puff The Magic Wagon", and "Give Pierce Arrows A Chance". You know, bring it to the people! Educate them about this genocide that is being perpetrated against innocent and oppressed automobiles everywhere, right before our eyes! Show them that cars have rights, too, and that this injustice must stop, NOW !
12. Very nice photos, Wayne! I'm glad someone got shots of the black racer (pics 12-17). What a beautiful car. I talked with the owner for a while, and felt disappointed for him that he did not get the opportunity to run it in on Friday at it's first time out at Hershey. I would have liked to hear it thunder around the track.
13. What do you expect. Beating dead horses is what Dave@Moon does for a living! Gotta love liberals...they hammer and hammer until everyone thinks, acts, and feels the same way as they do. Endearing, isn't it?
14. Another vendor- I wasn't complaining about my sales. I was trying to express the reasons why vendors close early, in answer to Dave's original post.
15. "Now, the question that has to be asked is what is different between then and now. Why have our cars been so devalued in the eyes of people outside our circle?" ------------------------------------------------------------- I don't think the cars are devalued by the people you consider outside our circle...If anything, they are becoming more and more valued every day. What is different now? Simple. Time and money . (1) Time is more valued now, and people are less willing to waste it on things that can be done better and more quickly by someone else. Rodding a car that has been restored already is a lot less work, and just makes more sense. (2) The people who are building rods these days are middle aged guys with lots of disposable income. They can afford to buy a restored car to build the hot rod that they wanted since High School. Is this a great country, or what!
16. I got that line from a guy last year who made me an offer on an old Fire Dept. item. Ten minutes later he came back with the money that his wife had just given him. It was the saddest display I have ever seen!
17. SalG has unwittingly bumped into the reason flea markets are rapidly going the way of the Dodo bird. Some still prefer to walk the fields for the "hunt" as Skyking suggested, but most want everything handed to them on a platter. SalG's desire for "Ford fields" is already a reality.....It's called eBay!
18. "Now if we could only convince vendors that if the stay for Friday and Saturday there'd be buyers for them. It's rapidly becoming a self-fulfilling prophesy that the vendors leave early because the buyers tail off. I believe that the reverse of that statement is closer to the truth." Once again I'll have to disagree with you, Dave. I arrived and set up in the White field at 11 AM on Tuesday, and business was steady all through Thursday morning. As soon as the rain began, business came to a halt, and I didn't sell another thing on Thursday afternoon, Friday, or Saturday. My stuff was under an awning, out in plain view, and all nos or excellent used (I very rarely sell rusty junk). All the while, people were walking in every direction around me with their eyes glued to some point on the horizon, as if there were an imaginary pot of gold in the distance. I heard comments that no one was open as they walked by! I don't know if folks think they will get wetter than they already are if they stop and look, or what , but I ended up closing early all three days and walked the other fields myself. Know what I saw? You guessed it- people walking all over, eyes set in the distance or glancing as they walked by, and no one stopping! I stopped many times and talked to other venders and they confirmed my observations. I don't think it's a self-fulfilling prophecy at all, as you suggest, and I think most sellers will agree. The fact is that, for the most part, the people doing the buying on Tuesday and Wednesday are other venders who know a good deal when they see one. After that, the "I'll be backs" come in droves! Just a few of my observations.
19. Sorry- I got home from Hershey late last night and forgot to log in...that was me above.
20. Dave@Moon- As you admitted in your first post, you've already made this point too many times. Rocketraider- If you don't understand the difference between sacred ground where thousands of Americans gave their lives, and an old automobile, then there is no point in arguing with you.
21. Dave@Moon- I understand that it is part of the Liberal's psyche to turn oneself into an emotional wreck over things that they don't agree with and that their meddling can't change... but, for the sake of your own mental health, and everyone else's right to the pursuit of happiness, maybe you should stop going to Hot Rod shows. Rocketraider- Comparing the conversion of a mass produced automobiles into a hot rods with the desecration of Civil War battlefields is ridiculous!
22. I have the following old bicycle stuff for sale. I will be at Hershey if interested. * 1899 Olive Bicycles sales brochure... Mint! * 1912 Framed letter from The Pope Mfg. Company * (2) EARLY Smith Flyer/Motor Wheel lantern slides * 1970's Camille Daudon racing bicycle * VERY NICE ORIGINAL 1898 Columbia Model 51 shaft drive bicycle
23. BrassCarJoe-

Thanks for the response, but I'm not interested in hunting for parts and pieces, and restoring mechanical components any more. I really need a complete and restored unit to build a body on to.
24. I am looking for a twelve passenger (four seat) 1908-1920 resort "shuttlebus", similar to the 1915 Stanley Mountain Wagon. It doesn't have to be steam, just that body style. All makes, models, years, and configurations will be considered. I prefer a restored or older restored vehicle in very good condition. I am on the east coast but will consider all locations. Leads are also appreciated. Please private email me and I will respond right away. Thank you.
25. In the event that I can not find the complete Mountain Bus that I am advertising for, I would like to find a restored 1908-1920 or so truck Chassis/Drivetrain to build a Mountain Wagon body onto. All leads will be appreciated. Please leave a private email to me, and I will get back to you pronto. Thank you.
