  1. Hello- I have two spaces in the green field for Hershey flea market. I can not attend because of a death in my family. Is there any way that I can recoup my $149?
  2. I lost my paperwork and can't remember the details. When do we get that 3x5 card to confirm payment of our Hershey Fall flea market spaces. I have had the same spaces for years, and don't want to loose them because I wasn't paying attention. Thanks.
  3. Hi Peter- I don't have any way to transfer the photos, sorry. The shell emblem and hub cap design point to 1928, so I'm wondering if the diver didn't pay much attention to the engine details when he was down there. I don't think he is an antique car guy. Maybe he identified the car as a four cylinder from the blurry photos after he got back to dry land! I can't really be sure by looking at the photos either. I'll have to get clarification on that.
  4. Olds guys- I'm doing some research on a car that was found at the bottom a local Lake last year. It went through the ice on this very day in 1937, and according to the 1937 newspaper article, the male driver drowned, and the female passenger managed to escape. The diver who found the car said it was a four cylinder Oldsmobile (he has a photo of the distributor cap, the hub cap, and the radiator cap). I wanted to narrow down the date of the car for him. My research found that Oldsmobile produced a model 43A four from 1921 to 1923, and then started the six model 30 that same year. The radiator cap photo shows the winged spur with three acorns (I thought that was later than 1923). The hub cap shows "Oldsmobile" within an oval outline. Would these things narrow it down more? I thought that I should check with the experts before I gave wrong information. It's stories like this that make the hobby fun for me. I'd appreciate any help.

  6. Hi- Chevrolet Gray is a <span style="font-weight: bold">dark</span> gray. The color in Sonny H.'s attachment looks to be the incorrect lighter gray that has been available from Bill Hirsch for years now. The actual color is more of a charcoal gray. The PPG number is DAR FS359, or 33750 and can be mixed at any automotive paint store that sells the PPG line. Be careful when ordering premixed Chevy Gray engine paint from the reproduction places. Almost every one of them sells the incorrect lighter color (I think they are all supplied by Bill Hirsch).

New information about the VCCA members only chat site: The site administrator has reported that the Board of Directors "voted and gave action to restrict the Chat site to members only", and that he will begin making those changes to the site in the Fall. "75% of the chat site users are not members", according to the minutes of the Board meeting. It looks like a lot of Chevy owners will be left out in the cold this Winter, unless they burn the $30 for membership.
  8. greg72monte, I guess you got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. Where in any of my posts did I condemn any group of people? And even if I did, there was nothing quick about it, since I have been a member of the VCCA since 1990, and a very early member of the Chatter site. And yes, I did get my information from the VCCA website...and you have no idea what forums on the site I have access to, do you? The date has not been set because the "machinery" to implement it is not up to speed yet. I'm just stating facts. It sounds like you are the one on the soapbox. Yes, some of the people are welcoming and friendly, and there is also a large group that are not so accommodating. A lot of the members do think it is a wrong decision. I think it was rammed through the annual meeting by one thin skinned individual who took the printed words of a past member way too seriously. And attaching the emotionalism of Memorial Day to this topic to somehow gain higher moral ground is, well, morally pretty low.
  9. The decision was made within a few days of my first post, and is to take effect sometime in the future. The big cheese in charge of internet club affairs said it's a done deal, and is in the works. Bleed it for all you can now, but be prepared to fork over $30 if you want to continue to ask questions. Or you can ask them here...no charge.

Inliners.org might be helpful, too." The BOD decision is: <span style="font-weight: bold">"Non-members can read all discussions but not create new topic nor reply to any discussion." </span> So... Unless you fork over the $30 membership fee, you won't be able to post your questions on the VCCA forum. That is, by any definition, a closed forum.
  11. Thanks for the inteligent responses. It would be helpful to hear from representatives of the other clubs that participate on this site. Have your clubs had any problems with the IRS concerning individual DFs and non-profit status? The overwhelming member response to the V***'s initial action was negative, but after the IRS excuse was used, the reaction changed in support. I have a feeling that we are being led down the garden path, and I suspect there is a darker reason for closing it's site to non-members.
  12. Peter and others- Could you please clarify something for me. The Board of Directors of another car club (not affiliated with this site) has just voted to close it's site to non-members. This is the description in "Farmerbob's" paint chip auction #2215074785: "This is <span style="font-weight: bold">two 8 1/2 X 11 sheets that have been copyed </span> from the Ditzler Paint book for Chevrolet cars for the model years from 1928-1934..It shows the Body style / body color / mouldings color /stripe and wheels / color along with the paint name and color numbers..and stripe color.The sheets list the following Chevrolet models.." It looks like the buyer (paul6127) wasn't paying attention, and now he's vindictively slandering Farmerbob here, and also on the Chevrolet chat site. There is no mention of the words "authentic" or "original" anywhere in the description. By the way, 28 chevrolet (paul6127) has a feedback rating of 20, with two negatives!

  22. I've attended the Hildene show every year since it began. It is a great show when the weather cooperates, and the location is extraordinary, but the weather is very temperamental, as the show is located in a "cereal bowl", surrounded by mountains. On a hot day, the moisture gathers above the mountains and DUMPS rain by mid-afternoon. It can be raining bullets there, and a mile away will be dry as a bone. As with all shows, the flea market has gone through it's changes. Early on, it was a great place to find some nice parts, but I have come home empty handed for the last five or six years. Hildene is a <span style="font-weight: bold">VERY</span> fancy place, and the show attracts over 1000 cars now, with many expensive, professionally restored cars from far away. Unfortunately that doesn't translate into sales for the parts vendor...and those vendors have realized this, and now stay away. With a few exceptions, the vendors are the same every year. The majority of vendors now sell high end craft items, artwork, and car care products that appeal to the car owners and (mostly) their wives. I have vended there several times early on, the last time was about five years ago when I had a very pretty Chevrolet truck for sale. I brought a load of parts to fill up my space, and sold very little of those, but I did sell the vehicle for about twice what it was worth... and actually MORE than I was asking in the first place! The flea market attracts about 200 or so vendors (nowhere near the quantity or quality of Stowe), costs $35 per 20' X 20' space, and set up is allowed on Friday. Aside from the fact that nobody buys anything, the other reason that I think the flea market has seen it's better days is this (from the Hildene paperwork I got in the mail): "The State of Vermont requires that <span style="font-weight: bold">Vermont State sales tax (5%) and Manchester Local Option sales tax (1%) </span> must be collected where required. All vendors must have a Vermont Tax ID. Please contact the Vermont Tax Payer Services Division for registration and tax forms or other information, which may be specific to your particular business." That in itself is enough to keep most vendors (the ones that sell the dusty, just discovered treasures, anyway) away in droves. Vermont takes it's bucolic splendor way too seriously, and never fails to try to cash in on it through the little guy. Shame on Manchester for piling on. But, hey, we have to pay for our Civil Union benefits somehow, don't we. <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" /> Hildene is a nice relaxing show in a beautiful location. If you choose, you can also enjoy a cocktail reception ($17 extra) with lots of car owners who have never picked up a wrench before. <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" /> If you are looking for a good flea market, go to Stowe.

  24. My Antique Automobile magazine arrived the other day, and I couldn't believe the photo of all the new wheel covers cascading out of the trailer on page 30. It really sums up the Hershey flea market these days... a motor home, a parking lot full of parked cars, a porta-potty, and a trailer full of new parts! What really amazes me is that it didn't faze anyone enough to omit it from the issue in the first place. I guess an enforcement of the rules isn't in the near future. <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
