  1. Hi, My father and I recently aquired this car (see attachment). I've set up a website http://www.townisp.com/~alsancle which talks about its history. We are looking for any additional information or insight that you may have. There was numerous sightings in and around Boston in the 1930s. regards, A.J. SanClemente

  4. Non-running is a big issue for the bigger haulers because they are swapping cars in and out as they cross the country. The spot your car starts in at the begining of the trip is not going to be the spot it ends up in at the end (in a big trailer). Covered vs. outside makes a significant difference too. A.J.

    Model M vs BB

I found the chassis number on the right rear bumper bracket which confirms the car is a 28 BB. The numbers stamped on the right rear axel housing were as follows: On top, one of the following CV0, JV0 or GVC. On the bottom, 349. Anyone know what those numbers work out to? A.J.
  6. Folks, I'm looking for the following: 1. The front U-Bolt that attaches the motor to the front engine mount (same for 27-29 8 Cylinder?). 2. Any and all 28 BB documentation. 3. Seriously interested in purchasing any complete 28 BB car or chassis with drivetrain. Drop me a PM. thanks! A.J. SanClemente

Let me clarify my last reply, Does the front of the engine have yoke or shaft that settles into the mount with a cap that bolts on over it? I hate to ask but if anyone has a picture of this mount I would really appreciate it. A.J.

    Model M vs BB

Does the 28 BB front motor mount connect at the middle front of the engine like a Model A Duesenberg, or does it connect on the sides like the rear mounts? The reason I'm asking is that that this chassis had a different motor transplanted into it at one time and I'm trying to determine if existing brace front is original (it is not evident from the welding). I will try to get the axel ratio this weekend. A.J.

    Model M vs BB

The front axel is "73 R Timken 40879". The front brakes are Lockheed Wagnor. The lube system is NOT Bijur. The front shocks are Gabriel. It looks like it is an AA or a BB. Now I just have to figure out which. thanks for the help - A.J.

Hmmmm, that helps. Does the 27-28 have the Timken front axel? There is a number stamped on there but I don't have it in front of me. It is 145 inch wheelbase, but the front crossbrace where the chassis number is supposed to be has been removed. thanks! A.J.

    Model M vs BB

Just to clarify the male/female thing :-). Which one is like the duesenberg, where the wrench pulls out hub before you can turn it? I'm asking because I have a chassis sans motor or firewall and it is certainly Stutz but I'm not sure of the model. thanks, A.J.

Does anyone know if the M was available with the same 20 inch buffalo wires that the BB came with? Are there any significant differences between the chassis? thanks! A.J.
  14. Hi, I assume these are sold? A.J.
  15. Selling no reserve at the "Hershey Auction" on Friday night 10/7. 1953 Packard Caribbean. Purchased by my dad nearly 40 years ago. In dry storage and not driven for the last 35 years. Original color green with green/white interior. One repaint in 1970 that flaked while in storage (see pictures). Car is complete with all original components, runs and drives very well and most everything works. Requires paint and some cosmetics to be a nice driver. Has 4 new correct Packard wire wheels (not shown). Recently driven 25 miles from storage garage to home with no problems.

  17. The MBCA basically caters to post-1970 cars. They do have at least one pre-war article in the Star each month now, however. As for books, try Werner Oswald's book "Mercedes-Benz Personenwagen 1886-1986" which has quite a few pictures, although it is in German and the production numbers are suspect. Also, consider dropping a line to Henry Magno hmagno@comcast.net as he had a 230n in his shop last time I was there. He knows quite a bit about pre-war Mercedes. regards, A.J.
  18. Thanks, which manuals did you use to do that? I can't seem to figure out how to do the match. - Al
  19. Hi, I have a big pile of NOS parts that I can't figure out how to identify. I'm fairly sure they are for post war cars and I do have a number of parts manuals. Each part has at least one part number stamped on it. However I can't seem to find the numbers in any of the manuals! Is there some sort of IQ test going on here that I'm failing? Perhaps I don't have a comlete set of manuals? Any suggestions? thanks, Al Here are a few examples of what I'm trying to identify: Body Trim or running board trim: 1-396415 1-389885 441648 441559-8 413215 Rocker Panels 391921 391920 424193 Factory Head Gaskets: MC6225 354427 Group 5.0701 Emergency Brake Cables 316030 237192 316589
  20. RM is selling this particular car at their Biltmore Auction later in the month. I believe the estimate is 65 to 75k. AL
  21. To be run Friday night at Hershey Auction 1953 Packard Carribean, Full cosmetic and mechanical refresh. Finished in Powder blue with blue and white interior, this convertible has an automatic transmission with power steering, windows and top. It is a solid rust-free car with very nice paint, interior, chrome and mechanics. Mileage of 61,500 is believed to be correct. Everything works and the car drives exceptionally well. Reserve is very very reasonable - this car will sell.
  22. The auction is nolonger at the lodge but at the arena and is now a 4 day affair. Got to http://www.blackhawkcollection.com/ or probably a better idea, go to www.kruse.com as they are running the auction for Don Williams and Richie Clyne. Al
  23. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't you buy your car at auction? This is always tough as you don't get to drive the car first which would show quite a few of the issues you mention. Many of the Duesenberg Chronographs where replaced with fakes over the years. You can tell because the minute counter on the stopwatch will not function. A real one will show the edges of the other numbers around the zero, and the fake ones usually just show a zero (and won't turn). I'm always amazed that this is not picked up during judging. At Auburn this year I would say 25% were not original. If your chronograph is a replacement one and you would like a correct one I can put you in touch with a source for a 100% correct unit. regards, Al
  24. My father's 1940 180 Darrin which he bought in 1954 or so has a tach in the glove box. Also I've seen a packard glove box tach in museum display somewhere that I can' recall.<P>Al
