1. The underhood light has a mercury switch contained in it that causes the light to come on when the hood is up and go off when the hood is lowered. It is connected to the taillight circuit so that it will come on when lights are on. GM has used these light for years. I used to get them from a wrecking yard and put one or two under the hoods of vehicles not having underhood lamps.
2. A little oven cleaner and steel wool should make her glisten.
3. Will let me enter the mileage of one Reatta. Many Reattaphiles have more then one.
4. More! The lens I replaced was full of water. I drilled a hole low down in each end of the plastic back. The water ran right out. The leak allowing the water to enter was on top at the curve. It had delaminated or else was not properly sealed when built. A skim bead of silicon sealed the top and the holes were also sealed with silicon. I now have a spare. I wouldn't have bought a replacement if I had known about the easy fix beforehand.
5. Got one from Speedway in Phoenix last year, $65.
6. Yes carz60, and if you keep up with the posts here, you will note the usual parts sources are fast drying up.
7. www.reattaparts.com www.thebuickplace.com
Speedway Automotive
allbuick
Phil Hertel
All one and the same. Wish I had thought of it. I have purchased three Reatta items there--paid plenty but went out with the items "bird in hand".
I still think the convertibles he has for sale, if properly repaired as he states, are probably worth the $$$ or soon will be. I intended to look them over recently, but it was 112 degrees and Phil was covered up with work.
No, we aren't kin, he doesn't know me from Adam.
8. Could be a broken wire at the ignition switch causing it to not be able to read the chip in the key. Lets it run for a short period of time and then shuts it off as a stolen vehicle.
9. Does the '89 have the security chip in the key? If so, the ignition lock can have a problem (broken wire) that will allow the car to start and run a few seconds and die. The fix is a new ignition lock.
10. You need new speakers. Do a search here and you will find several recommendations for speaker brands and sources.
11. I have repaired two pairs using Barney's instructions. The plastic rollers were crumbs. Also replaced the bellcranks on one car. Rollers from Eklers, bellcranks from gmpartsdirect at a price half of GM dealer's.
12. The controls on the side of the driver's seat indicate it is 16 way. The one control on the passenger seat is power recline. 16 way not available on passenger side.
13. Jerry, Get a rattle can of clear coat at Wally World and try a spot. Worth a try.
14. Take a look at autotrader.com. There are 113 '90 and'91 Reattas there, many of them convertibles. You can gain a perspective there about mileage, condition, and pricing.
15. In today's Las Vegas Review Journal
(Fri. 7/26/02) '90 Reatta conv. White/Burgundy int.. 112k mi. Exc. Cond. Asking $5000. 702/369-2222
You can fly in, win enough to buy and drive it home.
16. The tan were $80 plus Shipping ($8or $9). The new order is bound to be a buck or two more.
17. Wally, I'd like to purchase one of your remotes.
kfowler@citlink.net
18. Easy. Easy. The man knows what he wants and indicates he's willing to pay the price.
19. I have a pair of the tan coming from Barney, but I am in desparate need of burgundy ones.
Barney needs commitments for three or four more sets before he'll have burgundy ones made. Any takers???
20. I posted the number, now I feel warm and fuzzy too!
21. Asked my tire dealer (independent) friend about Kumho tires. He says he is selling quite a few of them and has had no problems with them, a quality tire. He looks for them to be a main line tire in a few years. Kumho is making a name for themselves by putting them on the race circuit and by doing much advertising. Prices are reasonable like prices on everything from Korea until they establish themselves in the world's market. Look at the Korean autos.
22. Barney's modified washer will work nicely if we could obtain some of the adhesive some of the auto manufacturers are using to attach door hinges.
23. Have you noticed lately the prices for Reattas on Auto Trader and on Hemmings? Looks like the values are creeping up. Isn't that what we've been waiting for?
24. Was at a car show last year, there was a car there with a placard saying formerly Elvis', in small letters at the bottom, Elvis brown.
