1. The "Low oil" light comes on when I start my 90 coupe in the morning. The oil is not low. If I immediately restart the car the light goes off. It only happens on the first start up of the day and after that it is fine. If I don't restart the car the light will stay on for that trip. Any suggestions as to what is wrong?
2. The blue leather in my coupe just won't come clean. I have tried several cleaner-conditioners from the auto store with less than spectacular results, the latest being Lexol. Anyone have a secret formula that will get the 12 years of grime out of the leather with out damaging it or the stitching?
3. Yes, I really feel sorry for you guys and gals that have to drive in damp weather with the temperatures approaching 60 degrees, that is why you have so much trouble with them, too pampered. I drive mine through wind, snow, sleet, driving rain, below zero to above 100 degree temperatures, on salted streets and rush hour traffic. The car is terrific in any weather. I even wave at the 4X4's in the ditch as I pass by.
4. This is a when all else fails repair and I pass it on from a member who told me when I had trouble. Take the carpet out and dust the floor with talc. You can put the seats back in and drive it around. Check for water tracks from the leak source after a rain storm or car wash. My car had three different points of water entry.
Another problem can arise from water in the compartment. A thick bundle of wire runs in a channel across the floor and water can get in and create havoc with connections. I swore I had a gremlin in my cars electrical system until I found and fixed those connectors.

There is a 90 Reatta right side motor on ebay. Move quick it ends today (3-1)
6. My 1940 Pontiac Deluxe 6 and I have been together for thirty-five years. Just can't seem to part with the old girl.
7. An eight dollar car wash which is $8.00 more then I spent on the wife. So I guess I better pick up flowers on the way home.
8. 1990 coupe, all Chicago rush hour traffic. 76,000 on the clock and I get about 14mpg. This spring I am going to check for vacuum leaks because it also idles rough. Also thinking of going to a podiatrist to get some of the lead taken out of my right foot
9. In defense of the car. It is twelve years old and a heck of a lot of twelve year old cars are in the junk yard. Things are going to wear out whether it's a Reatta or a BMW and the parts for the beamer are a lot higher priced. After owning a 1965 Rustang sag-in-the-middle convt and a 1965 what-ever-you-do-don't-turn-on-the-heater Corvair my '90 coupe is heaven sent even with the chime that don't work and the brake light warning that keeps on unless I physically pull up on the pedal. Yes, I replaced the brake pads, tires, and struts and had to twice take it in for ac repair, but that turned out a lot cheaper then the three transmission repairs to my 96 Chrysler. If you want reliability buy a new Honda, if you want pazazz be ready to pay the piper.
10. Has anyone ever plotted the distribution of Reatta owner in the USA? I once read that Buick considered Chicago their #1 market area. There does seem to be an exceptional number of Reattas in Chicagoland.
11. Know exactly what you mean Padgett. Every other one of my cars has been a rag top since my first '54 Pontiac. They usually leak, they are colder in the winter, back in the bad old days the plastic back window would cloud over. I would get disgusted and buy a hard top only to pine away for the great days of summer with the top down so I would go out and buy another convt. and the cycle would start over again.
12. Next to my 90 Reatta convt. is a 1940 Pontiac Model 40-26 Deluxe 6. I have owned the car for for 33 years. Am the third owner. My wife delights in reminding me the car is considered an antique and I am as old as the car so what does that make me?
13. I installed a JVC ten disc changer with FM modulator in my 90 coupe. Hung it just behind the trunk access door so I could change CD's from inside the car. Ran the wiring through the inside of the center hump without a problem. Found a space behind the driver's seat under the carpet that leads to the trunk. I did have to buy a GM to standard antenna adapter and a standard to GM adapter from Best Buy to complete the installation. I have no problem switching from CD to radio, turn off the CD and it automatically switches to radio.

When I belonged to the Corvair club (CORSA) I didn't have to join the Chevy club, and at the other end of the scale I belong to the Pontiac club (POCI) and as far as I know there is no extra charge for registering a GTO. So why does the Buick club want Reatta owners to pay more then the members with their '36 with side mounts, isn't that just as rare? What do I get for the extra ten dollars, one page in the club magazine? For us with skinny wallets and mutiple model collector cars it can get expensive joining all the clubs. If ten dollars bought me a junior membership and helped defray the cost of this site I would gladly send the check today, but $45.00? That is a wee bit on the expensive side. Cost and value have to match somewhere along the line.
15. Have a slow leak in the A/C unit. Local garage couldn't find it but did switch to R134a. Once a year I have to refill with a can of freon. This time I added the gas but my sevice A/C light did not go out and the A/C doesn't work. I checked the system and have low side pressure in the green on the guage. Could it be the switch and is it serviceable without draining the system? If so where is it located?
16. I had one small seperation of about an inch in the lower corner that acted like a funnel when it rained. I filled the seperation with Dow silicone sealer. Its been about six months now with numerous folding of the top and have had no problem.
17. Black with blk top and saddle interior. 72,000 miles $12,000 firm. If interested post here or Arrallen@iols.net
18. Have 90 Reatta for sale on e-bay. See item 595084407 for complete details. Maui blue 76K miles. If you do not want to bid contact me via E-mail Arrallen@iols.net
19. Brenda,
Have you considered the Audi TT? That will be my next car after my love affair with my Reatta ends. Two seater in the convt. and child sized rear seats in the coupe, just what your looking for. The only bad reviews have been the low roof line knocking the head on entry.
20. Bought my back struts from www.shockwarehouse.com they cost about $70.00 each. Fronts go for about $60.00. They also have mounting kits. They sell Monroe Sensatrac. Service was good and had no problem installing them. I would suggest taking the strut/spring assy to your local autoparts store and have them disassemble and reassemble the things. I once nearly put a spring thru the garage siding and was thankful I wasn't standing in front of it when it let go.
21. the driver's side view mirror on my 90 Reatta jiggles and dances in the mount and the electic motor doesn't work. Did any other GM cars beside Reatta use this style of mirror? Can the mirror and mechanism be removed from the outer shell and replaced?
22. This problem seems to plague several of us, I just discovered I have the same hot weather raise in temp when I had to use my car for out of town trips. When someone come up with the solution please post it for all of us.
23. Before you go to all the trouble of taking apart your dash board did you try a different key? I have heard that the use of the same key over a long period of time can wear that little pellet imbedded in the key and change the electrical resistance so the module does not reconize it as the right key. Any other member may have more info on this rumor?
24. I own a 90 convt. in bad rain storms I get water under the rug mainly on the drivers side. One day it rained so hard I actually had water 1/2" above the rug. Today I went through a car wash. There was no water leaking arould the side window or under the top around the back, yet I still ended up with a very wet rug. Anyone have a simular problem? Any helpful suggestions where to look? I tried running a garden hose around the windshield and driver's door but saw no obvious leaks.

reatta-itis

I have read this thread and can't help but to jump into the fray
Reatom, when the seller made a deal with you even before the auction was ended didn't any bells go off that this guy is unethical, not living up to the promise he made to E-bay? Cripes, Big Ben should have been tolling loud and clear that you couldn't trust this guy . If he was unethical with E-bay, why in the world did you think he would be ethical with you? I think your lucky to have gotten your check back. And did your greed for the car get in the way of your morals when you made a deal with him before the auction ended, or did you see nothing wrong with that?
Talk about your pot calling the kettle black, this is a classic case.
