1. Ok..without getting into a "group hug" thing - it sounds like there's agreement about differences in societies driving the differences between Euro and the US. I am very envious of the reputed rail system in Europe, as well as use of the bike and walking (yikes !!!) as viable transportation. Unfortunately, with all the malls being light years away, and small towns/big cities downstowns no longer existant, we here in the US are kinda doomed to the long drives. I think the point was VERY well made about our society needing to change. Not necessarily to mimic the European way...but in a way that is in line with our own way...but using alot of Euro ideas to get there. Hey, maybe look at Asian countries where they ride bikes ALOT to get from A to B too. (Am I long winded or what....)
 2. Hey..young and into old cars...good show- keep the hobby going. The big companies are like Mobile, Shell, Marathon to name a few. I am guilty of going against the good advice of boycotting the bigger places because Marathon is a US company, and funny enough, they have some cheaper stations in the area - as well as also being on the expensive end of the spectrum in other areas (agreeing with the "what part of town theory" already brought up). I strongly suggest, however, you ask around of your friends and family about some of the smaller stations they might regularly go - without haveing gotten bad gas, as I used to ocassionally go to a Meier Store gas station because of price, and got a bad tankful of gas that cost me plenty in replacing the fuel injectors of my Ranger.

quote:
Originally posted by 73Electra 225:
I'm still young, so I don't know as much about these sort of things. Just what companies are considered the "smaller oil companies?" I use Hess almost exclusivly because they are always 3-8 cents cheaper than everyone else, at least w/high-test. Is Hess considered a smaller company? What about Sunoco? My young mind is very curius.

 3. Good input...rational thoughts too. This may be an excuse for me to start joining some car groups (BCA for one) and start to get involved...maybe get a number of the clubs and organizations together and apply some pressure to our fearful leaders.
On a more practical note....ok guys, I think its not going to work, but I'm and engineer and the THEORY behind it sounds good...but I actually am trying out a gadget from JC Whitney that is supposed to increase gas milage. I'm trying it out on my '86 V6 4X4 Ranger which I have a very good handle on the gas milage. I guess its relatively cheap enough that if it works, I have a number of older cars ('67 Ford Wagon, '70 Caddy Convertible, and...yes - a 73 BUICK Century GS Stage I) with BIGGGG engines generally needing Hi Test, that I do drive alot during the summer, that would benefit. If it doesn't work...oh well, add me to the duped masses that fell for the gag. I'll keep you posted as to the results after 2 weeks of driving the Ranger.
 4. I would like to add also any render welting and weather stripping, plus headlights

quote:
Originally posted by BuickNut:
Hi, I need the following for a '49 Buick Super 4 door : Grille mustache bar ; grille (LH & RH); RH Rear Gravel Shield ; Front Fender (LH Front); Door Handles ; Rechromed frt and rr bumpers ; Hood Crest, Front ; "BUICK" and "SUPER" scripts ; Thanks

 5. Enough said about insults...lets keep it straight and productive. This effects our economy and our wallets. Is BCA by chance trying to work with any of the other organizations to put pressure on those that wield the power to investigate this and stop it ? I have a slew of old cars I have spent many hours trying to keep on the road only to have the price of gas do what mother nature and time couldn't do to my cars. Any comments ?
Thanks
 6. I don't have a bit of a problem with people disagreeing with me....what I do have a problem with is when others discuss a subject, trying to come up with a solution...SPEAKING UP for what they believe in...only to be told they're whining because they don't go along with the crowd and take all that is shoveled to them. If you examine the above discussions, you will see THAT is what set the whole slew of disagreements off.
Europeans aren't wrong in the way they do things anymore than the Japanese or anybody else...we do things differently is all -and you are very free to exercise your right in that regard.

quote:
Originally posted by SRiley:
I guess some of you just dont think much those of us in Europe. 7. Excuse me - do you ENJOY paying these high prices so the rich can get richer, or so that OPEC and the oil companies/distributors can rake in the cash and hold us under their thumb ? If I may get a little patriotic here - unless you SPEAK UP(...and I DON'T consider speaking up WHINING ! ), THEN YOU DAMN WELL GET WHAT YOU GET AND DESERVE ! Geez, you seem to be ignorant to the difference between everyday troubles that don't need complaining about, and real issues that DO ! Its people that just lay back and let happen what may- that cause all the apathy in the world. I obviously don't put this up there with issues like abortion, cloning, or the political trama between the US and China...but it is an important issue and affects the US economy already going down the toilet. Its called responsiblity to what's right. Come on...isn't 3 bucks a gallon for no apparant reason something to "whine" about ???

quote:
Originally posted by hatzer:
What is a BCA forum participant's favorite wine?
I'm paying to much everything. 8. Guess I also wanted to put in my 2 cents worth. The verbage such as "supply and demand" I feel are completely irrevelent concerning this subject. I think a better term would be "PRICE FIXING" -by OPEC, the oil companies, and the distributors. How many times have we heard that there was a storm that blew an oil ship to kindgom come, then that very next day the price at the pump was increased by $0.20 per gallon. Excuse me, but nationwide, that would pay for probably 200 ships being sunk. I DO agree that we need to find ways of conserving what we use, let the people that NEED to drive the big SUV's and 4X4's drive them, etc...but I am staring to look at some of ways to help myself out at the pump by doing all I can to increase gas milage (as previously stated - tuneups, tire air pressure, etc). I have taken the route also to (ok, here's a term...) RECYCLE my old '86 truck and rebuild the engine, replace the tranny, fix all (hopefully !!!) fluid leaks. While I do add to the economy by getting the wife a new vehicle every so many years, I hope I'm saving fuel used in making a new car by recycling an older one for myself (...after all, we DO have to send all those parts to Mexico and China to make cars and car parts so our companies can save money on domestic labor).
When I read that there are domestic RENEWABLE sources of fuel that can be used or need further R&D (soy diesel, grain alcohol additives - if they could get it right so the additives don't destroy the fuel system ! ), I know that guys like 'ol GOOBER and the oil companies are doing all they can to squelsh those sources and research....yes folks - our TAX DOLLARS AT WORK (...NOT !!!!)
And yes, I do agree about previously mentioned talk about the US saving OPEC's collective butts during the Gulf War. I think we ought to either pull our Flat-tops out of the Gulf, or charge them for our protection. If we pull out, they will definately jump start our ecomony ! The price of oil will go down as they will start selling it cheap to fund their arms buying (Lord knows they can get along at all) and guess who they will be buying the arms from - the good ol US of A defense industry..which need a shot in the arm selling them our old, antiquated stuff !...ok I guess I have vented enough.
 9. The car is a 1970 vintage (....a NEW car..), so the fabric is probably a blend of nylon, vinyl, etc, I would assume...it sheds the rain without getting soaked through, so I'm assuming its not impregnated (of some type) canvas. I guess the first line of defense would have been some brains on my part in not putting it in harms way to begin with.

quote:
Originally posted by scott mich bca # 6619:
I assumed that "Buicknut's" top was fabric, as he said he did not want to ruin the "fabric or paint".
Scott

 10. Hi,
I was wondering if you had any grille parts or upper grille mustache bar. If so, what shape, what price, and what would be shipping to Sandusky OH area (zip 44839) ?
Thanks.
 11. Hi,
I have a convertible that I left in the garage without the car cover on - while I've been doing lots of work on other projects in the garage. Lots of dust and dirt has been scared up, and consequently the top is very dirty. Aside from chastising me for being stupid and not using the car cover - does anybody know of a very good convertible top cleaner to pull deep down dirt and grime out that WON'T HURT the fabric or paint ? Thanks.

 14. Please send your address and phone number to my e-mail address at "RES2897@AOL.COM". I would like to see about getting a set of thes to try out. Thanks.

quote:
Originally posted by WF59B:
Yes, the insulators I have are universal ones, they are the exact same thickness (3/16th") & outside diameter (5 1/8th"), but on my '59 frame there are 3 'tangs' that center the top of the spring, and the insulator inside diameter needs to be large enough to fit over these tangs. That's were they need to be trimmed (for frames like mine).
If your frame doesn't have any 'spring locator tangs' (for lack of a more accurate term)- these would work fine. Measure the outside diameter of your coils. I am working on getting a digital picture of these soon. Feel free to contact me direct if still interested.

 15. I have used POR 15 with mixed success. The engine paint is fantastic. After painting the engine a year ago, it still looks great in my everyday vehicle. The paint over rust paint (for general use) is somewhat tricky. You have to remove ALL the grease ang grime, and that is paramount - and also difficult, then use the paint prep supplied to precoat the surface. Note this paint prep is widely used with other paints in the automotive industry as well, and is well known as a successful prep for any paint. However, I am still in agreement with the other folk in saying that is appears to be the best that I've tried - though I have not yet tried the Corrollos (spelling ??) advertised through Eastwood.
 16. Could you clarify your definition of nice. Are they show quality, very good driver quility, nice driver quality, or just not rusted. Do they have any pits, scratches, gouges, scraps, etc ? Also, the car you took it off of, did it also have disc brakes in the front ? By chance could you send me a digital picture at "RES2897@AOL.COM" Thanks.

quote:
Originally posted by bbeerkircher@yahoo.com.:
They came off a 69 buick special wagon. But what they originaly came off i dont know. But i am sure they will fit your 73 regel.I send quite a few wheels by mail,as I, besides having 4 buicks, i am in the used tire and wheel business.I would be very close by s aying right around 100.00. 19. I have a '49 Buick Super and a '73 Buick Century GS....would these insulators fit my applications ?.....would u consider them to be universal insulators with some minor timming requirements ?
Thanks
 20. Hi..sorry to hear of the problem. Check your rear drums...maybe the auto adjuster isn't working correctly, also check to make sure the drum shoes don't need replaced. Word of advice...replace brake parts in pairs on the same axle. Make sure when you bleed the brakes the axle your bleeding is up in the air..air is lighter than brake fluid and will gravitate to the highest point. The vibration during hard braking is high disc thickness variation (DTV), get both rotors turned at the same reputable place, maybe drums need turned too they may be slightly out of round.....just my opinion.
Good luck
 21. Hi...drop me a line. I have about 4 cars that will need chromeing and I want to know who NOT to go to...Thanks.

 22. You need to get a Hemmings Motor News subscription...that's the Bible to old car owners. It has a wealth of parts in the Buick, GM Parts, Mixed-Multi Makes parts sections. They're online..but get the magazine monthly...you'll get more out of it. No offense to the previous gentleman about Kanter's, but they're EXTREMLY expensive. Hemmings will give private vendors and individuals selling parts, as well as junkyards parting out your same car just for parts...just my opinion about Kanters. Good luck
