It's all relative. I'm sure that nothing Buick has produced can compare to the new Dodge Challenger Hellcat either - supercharged hemi putting out 707 horsepower and it's streetable. GAD ZOOKS !!!!

The first think you should do is see if the motor works - connect the neg. side of the battery to the case of the motor . From the positive side of the battery hold to one spade of the motor and the motor should turn one way . Then try the other spade and the motor should turn the other way .The micro switches should stop the motor in each direction . If that works , you are good to go . Depending on how much linkage needs replacing . You should not have to remove the fenders . You may need to R n R the clamshells ? There are two access panels underneath as well . Lube all moving parts .

Here is some pics from the National . Some are not the best but memorable moments for all . Click on the link , click on slide show / upper right - sound on and go to full screen . Back in the day when these cars were new / newer , the owners would cut the wire that went to the buzzer . Pain in the .... at 90 plus ! You got cruise or buzzer but not both . Each had there own speedo - they were not the same .

Can someone tell me how to access the headlight switch ? I need to change it . Do I remove the dash pad , from under the dash , do I remove the access panel under the steering column ? Thanks for the help !

Gord,
When you convert to steel wheels, the Gran Sport wheel covers would look great on your all black Riv and technically be correct for `65. I`m assuming they would be OK with the BCA judges as a `65 accessory but I`m not sure??? Good question for Dick Sweeney.
Tom
The Gran Sport spinner caps was only on the Riviera Gran Sports , They are a little rare today as most people that bought the GS wanted the road wheels . They would not be correct for the Std. Riv . That being said , I am a big fan of building the car the way you want and I would never have extra tires and wheels just for extra points . Its not worth th trouble in my opinion . Spend you money and time on other things to improve the car . The wrong tires is not a mandatory deduction so if everything else is good for the most part you could still get The Gold Award . Have fun with the car - thats what its about !

After being Retired from the Marine Corp. Leonard went to work for Mark Smiley of Classic Buicks - Thats where he gained his knowledge on the Rivieras . I guess he spent most of his time stripping the First Generation Rivieras for parts for re-sale . The last time I visited Len he had a 65 Riv GS Verde Green - he had other cars as well . Dont know where they went ?

You are a lucky man !!!

The inset shows a battlefield radar collecting array, disguised as a 63 Buick Riviera wheelcover, sporting a similar two-winged spinner with silver Tri-Shield.
I can only speculate that Buick's technology was chosen over a host of similar, 'me-too' technologies from Chevrolet, Ford and Chrysler and foreign makes such as Lexus, Mercedes, Infinity and BMW because of it's superior functionality.

Is there enough left of the cylinder to sleeve it? I think I'd do what I could to save the #'s.
With all due respect I would disagree with sleeveing it to save the numbers . For most of our cars the numbers matching value is a myth . For VERY high value cars this might be a consideration but for most of us a quality rebuild that runs smooth and being dependable is worth far more then the numbers matching . Just my opinion as a Master Judge or the BCA - we never look at engine numbers . Either way is expensive - best to do it right the first time .

Perhaps not known , Leonard was a retired Marine ! Semper Fi Len

It looks like we have lost a Great Friend and Legend in the First Gen. Riviera Circles .

Sounds like a good time to switch to a dual master cylinder. I used a 67 drum/drum m/c. There are 2 kinds, Delco or Bendix. You have to pull the old one and match it up. VERY Easy conversion!

HiI am having the car appraised and inspected by a company, but I would very much appreciate your opinion if it would be possible for you to take a look while you are in the area.
Haveing the car appraised and inspected is a good thing but ---- what is your sentimental value worth ? That is a hard one to answer . There will never be another car like this one . Perhaps you should pick a top dollar price and hope that the seller will take that or less . The Old Car Price Guide will give you a clue as to what the car is worth in hard dollars - the rest is up to you . Good Luck and I hope it will be parked in your garage soon !

Thanks for the Congrats and your vote everyone ! I will do my best to serve the Membership !

Many questions were asking for opinions - these questions will be reviewed by each Board Member and then discussed and reviewed by the Board in total . That's all I have at this time .

Thanks Kevin.
Just curious, could you share with us how the secret ballot votes are counted and by whom. Also how were the survey's tallied.
The ballots are counted by Joel Gauthiers CPA firm - Joel has been the BCAs CPA for a long time . The survey results will be sent to the Board Members to be defined . This is going to take a while to compile .
