Bloo, this message is for you and those interested. There is Tig welding that welds almost all kinds of metal. Welding pot metal with a oxi acetline torch require lots of skill, practice and patience. (you cannot buy patience in Wall Mart) how to control your torch heat, the secret is in your wrist, takes lots of practice. Over fill the spot then grind down to required level. Chroming guys knows how to remove existing chrome. I cannot remember the name of the company that sells a triangular shaped aluminum based welding rod . The salesman was welding pop cans using a propane torch. Good material to weld pot metal. In this case the host material does not need to be heated to melting point, Just enough to melt the rod which has a low melting point. This material can be filed and chromed. This company is US based and is very popular with restorers, at the moment I cannot remember the name

Fordy, yes I bought lots of reproduction parts from Australia for my 1928 Dodge Senior. Without them I would have had to send my car to the scrap. Inner and out side door handles and rob rails to name a few, They even cast in aluminum and pot metal

This is a big scam. Unless the middleman gives you the owner's name and address , phone number. You need tohave certain information. Clean title , Has the car been in accident ? how long has been in his posesion. The middleman can ask the buyer for a finders fee.
If not take a que from "Bolton"

This fellow in Australia does reproduces lots of parts in stainless steel. Not cheap. vintageproductions@bigpond.com or try getting to them by Cindy Meyers Dodge. Phone Mark Henry 416 661 3964 for information. He did the windshield crank for the 28 Dodge windshield for me.

Akstraw, I see it differently, point of view, My friend bought an original Motor Meter for a Buick "original" It never worked. He was psd off. Without letting him know I bought one from Restoration Supply and give it to him as a gift. This new one works fine. Put the two side by side one could not tell the difference. The price of the "original " was the same as the aftermarket .He had some choice words for the vendor. The Question is Do you want a working metre or a dud ? The choice is yours. I tried to remove the thermometer from my original and the whole assembly crashed in the process. To me it is not worth the effort. To each his own.
Cheers. Have a nice day.

I used to visit the flea market across lake Erie regular. Be honest to the guards. Never paid anything . I remember on a particular Sunday , a long week end in Canada the lady guard asked me if I had anything to declare. I was coming back from the flea market in wester NY. I said it is all flea market stuff. " I am in a hurry to go home, this is a long week end." Have a nice day, Sir" Never mis lead any border guard.

Marty Roth and jrbartlet advice is good. It would be cost effective to get a new one and have it nickel plated.
Free advice is not worth anything . Only paid advice is adhered to.

Historical plates may limit the drivability of the vehicle . Check, do your homework before deciding.

Can you get a container large enough to fit the entire jack minus the handle ? Put it in there and fill it with use motor oil. Leave for about 2 weeks. It will help soften the rust. When the parts move , wash with Varsol and wire brush.

As far as I can remember those generators are three brushes and by moving one of the brushes forward the current is increased . There is a cutout in the the generator output line to prevent feed back from the battery to the generator. Some of them may have the field fused to ground to prevent overcharging.

Let us know what you did to get the car going.
Cheers.

Best bet, remove the tank and steam clean . Also the fuel line, if rusted should be replaced. the fuel line from the the tank, fuel pump and filters should be cleaned and /or replaced where necessary.

Nice work and information.
I sent mine to Calima in Pensylvania. I do not have the equipment to do it.

I would keep it 6 volts if that what it was. Using a 12 volts to give it a boost will eventually ruin the 6 volt starter. An ignition coil getting hot means it is kaput. Get a new one. I have seen battery cable terminals corroded inside the solder joint. Take nothing for granted. Electrical problem can be very frustrating. I was taught by an old workmate of mine when ever I was frustrated to take a break, a long break to gather my thoughts. It like magic.
About 6 months ago I could not charge the 6 v. battery with my shop charger. At the lowest setting on the 6 volt dial the electrolyte was boiling. I got one of the smart charger from amazon . No setting required. The battery is very happy.

dictator27, you are correct. There were larger models, Morris Oxford and Morris Isis. Morris 1000 was the most popular.
Cheers.
