  1. Bloo, this message is for you and those interested. There is Tig welding that welds almost all kinds of metal. Welding pot metal with a oxi acetline torch require lots of skill, practice and patience. (you cannot buy patience  in Wall Mart) how to control your torch heat, the secret is in your wrist, takes lots of practice.  Over fill the spot then grind down to required level. Chroming guys knows how to remove existing chrome. I cannot remember the name of the company that sells a triangular shaped aluminum based welding rod . The salesman was welding pop cans using  a propane torch. Good material to weld pot metal. In this case the host material does not need to be heated to melting point, Just enough to melt the rod which has a low melting point. This material can be filed and chromed.  This company is US based and is very popular with restorers, at the moment I cannot remember the name

  2. This is a big scam. Unless the middleman gives you the owner's name and address , phone number. You need tohave certain information. Clean title , Has the car been in accident ? how long has been in his posesion.  The middleman can ask the buyer  for a finders fee.

If not take a que from "Bolton"

  3. Akstraw, I see it differently, point of view, My friend bought an original Motor Meter for a Buick "original" It never worked. He was psd off. Without letting him know I bought one from Restoration Supply and give it to him as a gift. This new one works fine. Put the two side by side one could not tell the difference. The price of the "original " was the same as the aftermarket .He had some choice words for the vendor. The Question is Do you want a working metre or a dud ? The choice is yours. I tried to remove the thermometer from my original and the whole assembly crashed in the process. To me it is not worth the effort. To each his own.

    Cheers. Have a nice day.

I said it is all flea market stuff. " I am in a hurry to go home, this is a long week end." Have a nice day, Sir" Never mis lead any border guard.

  5. As far as I can remember those generators are three brushes and by moving one of the brushes forward  the current is increased . There is a cutout in the the generator output line  to prevent feed back from the battery to the generator. Some of them may have the field fused to ground to prevent overcharging.

  6. I would keep it 6 volts if that what it was. Using a 12 volts to give it a boost will eventually ruin the 6 volt starter. An ignition coil getting hot means it is kaput. Get a new one. I have seen battery cable terminals corroded inside the solder joint. Take nothing for granted. Electrical problem can be very frustrating. I was taught by an old workmate of mine when ever I was frustrated to take a break, a long break to gather my thoughts. It like magic.

About 6 months ago I could not charge the 6 v. battery with my shop charger. At the lowest setting on the 6 volt dial the electrolyte was boiling. I got one of the smart charger from amazon . No setting required. The battery is very happy.
