  2. I’ve got a 1917 that has had an electric pump on it for years with a regulator. The pump has recently started acting up and failing intermittently. I’d like to replace it with a vacuum tank and I’m looking for both the tank and the proper mounting bracket for the 1917 6-cylinder engine. Any leads would be greatly appreciated!

I’ve been looking for a Franklin and luckily this one is a short drive away so I was able to see it in person and go for a drive. Wonderful time capsule car, just not quite what I’m looking for. This car is not listed in the Franklin club’s directory, so hopefully the new owner will join us and register it. For anyone looking for a Series 9, there is also a yellow touring listed on Hemmings.
  7. I’m not sure of much anymore… Yes, I double checked measurement of the rim and tire that came off of it this morning. The rim is 26” and the tire’s inside opening is 26”. The wheel wedges are not Baker. These are stamped Perlman. W C on the left, M O on the right. Does that provide any additional insight?
  8. That was my error above, all these tires and numbers are running together! Currently, it has Universal straight ribbed 34x4 on 26” rims. With Terry’s comment about filling in the fender space, I found 36x5 that also fit the 26” rim. Both are Lester straight ribbed, similar to existing. I can’t find Silvertown Cords for a 26” rim.
  9. @Terry Wiegand Thank you for the response and details. You make a good point about the larger tires filling out the fenders. This car has 26” rims, so the 34x5 Silvertown Cord won’t fit my rims. Would you recommend stepping up to a 36x5 or staying with the 34x4.5? I was just reading about paint colors in another post here and saw that white wasn’t an option. I’m learning a lot about this car here! With all the feedback here I’m leaning toward the solid black. Another fear is the heat here in FL may discolor or be harsher on the whitewall, dulling it faster. Thanks again to everyone who chimed in!

  11. Good eye @dibarlaw! Yes, both back wheels and one front had significant damage. New tires will be mounted on four new wooden wheels that were completed this fall. I have seen similar ads like the fist one you posted showing white tires. Because black is so often seen today, I wasn’t sure if there were reasons people selected one or the other. I hadn’t really considered solid white because my primary desire was to keep the car’s appearance as how I always remember it. My grandfather restored it from boxes of parts and pieces and now I’m grateful to be it’s next caretaker. Can anyone with the solid white tires chime in on how easy they are to maintain a clean appearance?
  12. I need to order new tires for a 1917 Buick D-6-45 Touring. It’s currently wearing Universal white walls, 34x4. I had been thinking of replacing them with the same. However, those are not in stock at Coker, so they don’t qualify for any of the promotions they’re running. They do have solid black in stock that would qualify for the promotion. Is one more period correct? The car has a white body with black fenders.

  14. Very cool @3macboys! You’re right about the space filling quickly. I think I’m pretty good at moderating that, but with the garage at home, everyone else sees the garage as a catch all for anything and everything! I’m assuming this was an existing commercial building you purchased as is? It’s nice that it has great curb appeal with character and doesn’t just look like a warehouse. Thanks for sharing!

  16. That’s an interesting approach @Jim Bollman. The Austin was previously my grandfather’s and he always had it stored next to two Lincolns ‘59 and ‘78, both were wall to wall, it was comical, essentially the same depth as the Lincoln’s trunk.
  17. @Golden73 I’ve explored this idea locally and the costs were similar. Is your storage an individual unit, or warehouse style specifically for cars/boats/RVs? Do you/can you rotate the cars and keep each home for a while then switch? Is this a short or long term plan for you? Thanks for coming contributing to the conversation. There is a place within two miles from my home that offers both, assuming both cars could fit in the individual unit. The warehouse is priced per square foot but will not allow a switch without essentially ending/starting a new agreement. I guess there is some sense to that.

  19. I’m interested to hear how/where you store your cars. Do you have more than two cars? If so, how do you make that work? I’m in Florida, which means there is no basement and not all storage can survive in the attic during the summer. The garage is wider than normal to accommodate rack shelving and work benches on the sides along with the HVAC and water heater. With the typical garage stuff, kids bikes, and randomness that accumulates temporarily, the garage is always shrinking. I’ve got a 1931 American Austin roadster project, which only fills half of one bay. The other spot is for a 1917 Buick touring coming home in the spring, but I’m desperately trying to figure out how to make room for at least one more car… Our lots aren’t large enough for another garage and we can’t have a shed or other out building. Do all collectors live further out of the city where you have enough land to build a large garage behind the house? Did you buy for the garage or for the potential of a big garage? Do you have cars in a local storage facility? How does that work for you? What is an average rent/lease? How do you justify the expense? Have you sought out friends or neighbors to borrow some of their underutilized garage space? Do you pay for this arrangement or barter? Have you leased space elsewhere, like in a commercial park or smaller private warehouse type space? What does that lease look like? How else do you/can you make this work? How do YOU store your car collection? Thanks in advance for anyone willing to shed some light on this topic!

  22. Since Buicks were made for so many years, does this forum have any subgroups to help gather or group conversations by decades or generations? I’ve got a 1917 D45 Touring and am most interested in discussions on Buicks from the teens and twenties. Does anyone have advice to help filter threads and better navigate this forum? Thanks in advance!
  23. How long have you had this car? Do you think someone cut and added the wheel wells or are they completely different fenders?
  24. I grew up as my grandpa’s sidekick and copilot tinkering with old cars, he had a dozen, including a 1921 Franklin sedan that I loved riding in. He taught me the joys of old cars that I need to pass on to my four kids. I’m looking for a Franklin, 1926 or earlier, ready for that its next caretaker. Love the horse collar hood. Needs to be road ready or close, and large enough for the whole family to enjoy. We’ve already got a project car, we’re looking for a driving car. Any leads would be appreciated! I recently joined the Franklin club and posted there as well, hoping to reach an additional audience here…
