  3. Yeah, it's a beauty. It belongs to a former owner of my car. Here's another shot that shows the Titian Maroon better.
  4. From the comparison we did before (cars and hats), it sure looks like our cars are the same color so I'm happy to learn the correct color of my car. I think you are correct about true Titian Maroon looking black on the screen. I have also posted a pic of a Titian Maroon convertible that I thought was black when I first saw the pic.
  5. I'm taking the liberty of bumping this back up to the top in hopes that someone can answer my last question about how the two sides of weatherstripping are attached where they meet in the middle. Thanks in advance! Neil
  6. Okay, I'm back with a further question. First of all, I found a box from Bob's in the trunk of my car with a few parts in it, including what looked like one half of the hood/cowl weatherstrip that I am missing. After seeing Grandpa's photo, I confirmed that this was indeed the case. As you can see from these photos, the strip I have fits the left-hand (driver's) side and appears to be similar to what is on Grandpa's magnificent Roadmaster. (Even though it apparently came from Bob's, it has a Steele logo on it.) So all I need is the right side. But here's my question: I'm probably missing something obvious, but what I don't understand is what happens at the center where the two "half" strips meet? There is only one center hole for the rubber "stoppers" to fit into. How do you get both "half" strips to meet in the middle? If I could prevail on Grandpa to post another photo showing the spot where the two sides meet in the center, that would be great! Thanks.
  7. Yes, the paint matches inside the trunk and the door jambs, so I'm pretty sure it was the original color. But one person who saw the car told me that it's not correct Titian Maroon, so it's hard to figure out exactly what's going on.
  8. I am not very sophisticated when it comes to automobile electronics, so I don't know if this answers your question. All I can tell you without further investigation is that the red wire to the Pertronix unit comes through the firewall from under the dash. The black wire is attached the coil as shown in this photo. The stock "armored" cable is attached to the back of the coil in the normal manner. Hope that helps, Happy Easter to you, too! Neil

  11. This post is from a while ago so you may have gotten your answer by now from other sources, but I can tell you that I have a Pertronix unit on my '41 Super and it runs like a top. I have only had the car now for a month, and I'm still finding out things about it. I didn't know about the electronic ignition until I'd had the car for a few weeks. I noticed the modern wiring and popped the distributor cap and found it. I have since discovered that it was installed by one of the two dealers that the car went through last year before I bought it.

  14. Yes, I am more cofuseder than ever! Are you saying that Metro Moulded has the right one for my car? I went on their site, and they only show a pic of the front of the pedal, part No. AP-29. They say it fits '41 Special and Super, "Price (US funds): $36.40," but I have my doubts. If they would show the back of the pedal, I could see what the hinge geometry is.

The first sentence of the description of the Special interior: Just from looking at this picture, you can tell that the new Mass-stream styled Special sedan is much roomier and more luxurious than ever before.
  17. I'm just learning about Buicks, but I'm pretty sure that you are incorrect on that. The new "C" body, shared by the Super and the Roadmaster in '40 and '41 was called the "torpedo" body. It was wider, and eliminated the running boards. They had another name for the "fastback" bodies on the Special and the Century, which escapes me at the moment.

  20. But doesn't the Super have the "large-sized" body for 1941? None of this makes sense to me. But I would be very grateful to hear from any '41 owners who have been able to find a replacement gas pedal that fits their car.

  22. Here are two more pics that show both pedals NOT MOUNTED to the bracket, as requested. The difference is so obvious that I should have noticed it right away. Any other ideas?
  23. Thanks, Dave, I will post another pic after I remove it. As far as welding -- I'm afraid that's pretty far out of my skill set. Also, the tube at the top for the throttle linkage would also have to be repositioned. There's gotta be an easier way!
  24. I am having a frustrating time doing something that I thought would be completely simple: replacing the gas pedal on my '41 Super. I ordered a new pedal from Bob's. (I will not dwell on the fact that the first two that he sent were wrong right out of the box, and I had to pay for return shipping myself.) So I was already a bit peeved, but I figured third time's the charm, right? I got part no. AP-390BN, an "exact copy on new steel core." I removed the pivot clevis pin from the mounting bracket from my car, removed the old pedal, and installed the new one with a new cotter pin. So far, so good. However, when I went to put it on the car, I found that the angle of the hinge on the pedal is wrong, and so the top of the pedal ends up about an inch to the right of where it should be and it is impossible to attach it to the throttle linkage rod that comes through the firewall. This photo shows the difference between the old pedal (on the right), and the new pedal (on the left, mounted on the bracket). I have lined up the old pedal so the hinge lines up with the bracket. You can see that the angle of the hinge line is different. I called Bob, and he said "I'm not sure whether the problem you're having lies with the new pedal or the old pedal." Needless to say, I did not find this remark to be at all helpful. He also told me that I should just bend the pedal at the hinge line, and I could make it fit. Also unhelpful as this would obviously be impossible. Is there anyone out there who has successfully purchased a replacement '41 gas pedal that fits? I see that I can have my old core revulcanized by Steele, and that's probably what I should have done to begin with instead of trying to deal with Bob.
