I found out recently the specifics of where my 38 came from in Newbury MA. I have what I believe to be transfer document that was drawn up by a local law firm there. It may have been a local custom there to have a "Bill of Sale of Personal Property" for this type of transaction. Don't know if this helps or not but who knows?
So my ace mechanic mic'd the crankshaft and it looks like it has been machined before. We suspected as much because some of the parts were not put back in the original order.
Thanks, Tom. Working on the Zephyr once every other week, I knew this was going to be a long-term project. It'll be great to here that engine running someday...
Sounds frustrating. Sorry to hear that. Being a newbie here, I got some good feedback on Boos-Herrel and I have used them since last April. I am pleased to say that I have not had an issue yet. They also followup very well in my experience.
After finding a cracked manifold, the whole engine has to be torn down. Some of the valves are out now and we are making progress.
My ultimate goal is to get my grandfather's '38 Zephyr going again. I hope someday I will be able to fully restore this beautiful vehicle. For the time being, I am limited to working once every fifteen days. I am no mechanic but I am lucky to have one willing to work on this extended project with me. It has been a year now and while work has not progressed as fast as I would like to at times we have made progress nonetheless. Onward...
Well, my guy pulled the engine and its not looking as bad as we initially thought. No scoring so far. A lot of rust residue in the water jacket but not too bad.

I sure do appreciate all the feedback. Sounds like I'm gonna have to dig deep. My Zephyr is in fair condition and most of the chrome is pitted or scarred. The headlight trim on the one light is greenish.
Thanks!
Thanks for your insight as well, guys. I bought my spark plug wires, oil filter, and oil sending unit from Boos-Herrell. Not sure what I'm going to do next. By the way, I live in the Detroit area.
