  1. Yeah, I think a mixture of on showroom windows & on car windows.

For instance ... "convertibles" & "super sports" I could easily see on the showroom window.  Whereas "Corvair", "4 on the floor" & "bucket seats" might've been on the individual car windows.  Either way ... VERY COOL!

Are Sunday drives enough to keep your juices flowing?

While I never owned a Riviera, back when I had a family of cars to drive on the weekends, those weekend drives were enough for me.  Now that those cars are gone, hindsight 20/20 tells me it wasn't enough, in some ways, but plenty in others.  While I was forced to sell due to losing my full-time job just after my 4th open heart surgery, I sometimes wonder how much longer I would've kept them anyway.  Some summers I just didn't drive them much.  Then, 1 season, I drove each of them (5 in total) over 1,000 miles each ... that was a good summer!

Regrets?  Sure, I have some, but nothing that keeps me up at night ... if that makes sense!

  5. plymouth,

Thank you!  Even though it isn't 100% what I wanted, I am thoroughly enjoying it.  Love the big cars & the 03 MGM is a great replacement for my 79 CC, though I will miss driving an older car every day.

I, too, like the Corvair color ... seems classy to me.

I can't say I've ever seen a Kaiser Darrin in person ... so you're a step ahead of me ...LOL.  I'd love to, tho.

    Hudsy,

Sorry to read about the troubles you've had with your 1996 MGM.  I'll keep an eye out for those type of problems with my 03.  How much are you asking for yours? lol

What a difference a few years make?  5 years ago this very week (dates & days), I had my catheterization Monday (11/07/2011), my 4th open heart surgery Friday (11/11/2011), & then today (Saturday evening), I was rushed back into the OR to stop some bleeding.  Now, I am surprised by a Cubs World Series win & getting used to a new daily driver!

    2: new-to-me 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis
3: for the 1st time ever, representing my employer at a meeting hosted by another company (just yesterday, Friday, 11/11/2016, the 5th anniversary of my 4th open heart surgery, Friday, 11/11/2011)
4: writing 2 stories that just flow with ease as I type

I know this phrase is most-associated with highway driving-merging, but this lineup of cars reminded me that it would seem the phrase could be applicable to some cruise nights & shows:

  7. Ha ... yes, I do remember those days!  Awesome keepsake you have there.  Kinda wish we were still in that time period, at least where correspondence is concerned.  Received a letter recently from an older cousin; her husband died a few years ago & didn't see the Cubs in the World Series.  Her daughter & son-in-law took her to 1 NLCS game & 1 WS game, & it was so cool to read her letter about her experience.  I actually called her Saturday afternoon to talk to her about it.  Today's society is geared so much towards instant communication it is sometimes sickening & suffocating.

Been a while since I had time to visit; living life, or so they say.  I am alive & fine, just handling & juggling a lot currently: health issues, health insurance changes, personal projects, professional obligations, trying to figure out a way to do more of what I really want to do while I still have time in this life, etc.  I sure miss my cars & some people, but I am doing the best I can in the moment.  I hope to be able to participate regularly again soon.  Meantime, sharing a few new things, FWIW.

I start with something I recently wrote: a short murder mystery story that simply flowed, surprisingly sparked by a rather insignificant experience. (I already have some ideas for a sequel-continuation.) Cars included: 1975 Caprice Classic convertible, 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis, 1991 Ford Crown Victoria, 1976 AMC Matador sedan, 1974 Dodge Monaco sedan. If interested, people tell me it takes ~1-1.5 hours to read; I explain the inspiration in the Forward:

I took this photo just over 3 years ago, while driving my former 1989 Caprice Classic Brougham north on I-39 in IL!  Considering the local radio stations kept playing songs from my life that road trip, I figured it was perfect for what I quipped ~1 year ago: sometimes, surprising songs fit the moment perfectly:

Actually, in the days of annual styling changes

(such as the late 1950's), there was a lot of criticism

of the manufacturers for changing things just for the

sake of change.  Manufacturers were accused of

using "planned obsolescence" just to make the

previous year's model look outdated, to sell more cars!

Reading old magazines, I have come across

accounts like that.  They are interesting, and give a

picture that people have put out of memory--thinking the

1950's were a time of care-free living and bliss.

I guess sometimes the consumer just can't be pleased!

Yep, true, John.  But, they are in the business of selling cars ... so annual changes make sense to sell more cars. ;)    Thus, it amazes me that we don't see more changes NOW, especially given the blandness of today's cars, well, for the most part.  *sighs*
