  1. * Each time I visit, I INTEND to visit regularly to not have so much catching up to do, but life gets in the way. A good thing, for the most part. Also, I am formulating road trips to northwest IL, Wisconsin, Iowa, Kansas, southern IL, Tennessee, Carolinas, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, etc, so please advise if you would like me to visit! 2. So much to say to this, but many of you have already voiced my thoughts. The National Monte Carlo Owners Association disbanded just prior to COVID-19; the last official convention was in 2019. I know others are trying to get another club going. My Mom was a member of a book club that recently disbanded because of dwindling membership. I had been invited to join a radio club, but it closed shop because they were losing members. A local writer's group in town stopped meeting because of so many online writing workshops. While I sometimes participate in the virtual options, I sure miss the in person gatherings and discussions. Today's world is so much different in so many ways than the heydays of cruise nights and organizations-clubs. BUT, I still see hope. Participation is definitely key. 4. I'm happy with my 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis LS as a daily, and my 1981 Monte Carlo SC as a "fun" car. So, nothing all that modern here. HOWEVER ... rode in a cousin's 2021 Hyundai Sonata this past summer ... and it took FOREVER us to figure out how to change the radio to AM to listen to a baseball game. I quipped: "This is why I like my older car." 6. LOVE this question. As for mine ... man....... Well, for starters, I've... ...done Route 66 (2009) ...owned a family of vehicles (Monte Carlos: 1972, 1976, 1979, 1981, 1987 ... with the 81 SC remaining, since that was my parents' brand new) ...road tripped yearly ...attended Woodward Dream Cruise ...started a website (Old Cars, Strong Hearts) Some of the things I'd still like to do: * entire US Route 20 (done parts of the middle, the east & west coasts, & of course, around my hometown of Elgin IL) * obtain more models of cars to have a "model show" * entire Lincoln Highway (done parts here in Illinois & a few other places) * attend several major shows I've never been to * own a Chrysler Cordoba * own a wagon (maybe a Caprice or LTD Country Squire) * own a convertible (preferably a 1975 Caprice Classic) * [for the "own" ... I'd probably settle for driving each] * & probably a lot more I can't think of at the moment lol. 7. HA ... add me to this list lol. Oh my ... I had a LOT of "sibling rivalry" when I had the family of cars a number of years ago. SMH. Also ... reading through this thread has been interesting. Goes to show that nobody really has the same experience. Some of the worst cars noted, I've had good luck with. *shrugs* My 2 worse cars: 1997 Corsica (er "malibu") 2000 Celebrity-Lumina (er "monte carlo") Mechanically ... probably my 1972 Monte Carlo. 9. * So, I finally detailed my car. Big deal, right? For me, this time, it kinda is! When I had my family of MCs, I spent every "automotive season" Saturday (weather permitting) detailing a car. But, when I detailed my 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis LS (which I'd bought late 2016) a few weeks ago, I hadn't detailed a car in at least 6 years. That sparked a "Monday Mystery" social media status which then led to a full entry (including pictures!) on OC,SH. If you'd like to read the tale, check it out here: https://www.oldcarsstronghearts.com/2021/07/21/cleaning-detail/ Meantime, 1 reason I list events in all 50 states on the OC,SH website is to encourage people to travel to meet. I did that a lot ~2002-2011 (which some of you might remember). Along those road trips, I discovered some cool connections. Take a look at the list & see what you might want to attend yet this year. As always, you are welcome to join us in Elgin IL along Historic US 20 for Cruise Days (Sundays, 3p-6p) & Cruise Nights (Wednesdays, 6p-8p). What road trips have you planned & done around gatherings? 15. Zomigosh! What an awesome topic. I can't be the only one who has thoroughly enjoyed reading all the memories sparked so far. My goodness. Let's see ... I was born in 1973. As I grew up, I came to be known as the kid who knew people by their cars, not their names. Of our neighbors cars, the one I remember the most is the 1976 Buick Regal sedan the lady next door owned for a while. Sometimes, she would see me walking to school carrying my cello and she'd have me hop in and she'd drive me. Before the Regal, I think she had a green early 1970s Impala. She replaced the 1976 Buick with a 1987 Celebrity, which she then replaced with a 1995 Lumina. I wish she'd kept that Buick, tho. The status is probably similar to the thought-provoking threads I used to post on the boards, if anyone remembers those. 18. As y'all can see, I'm horrible at replying within a "decent" timeframe. I had every intention of visiting again last Sunday, but a meeting with a client took longer than I'd anticipated ... and the entire day's schedule got even more out of whack with a close friend needing some help-support as well. That noted ... good to see many are still alive and doing well. plymouthcranbrook ... Thank you! It's good to "see" you. wayne ... ha, nice. Hope you are well. 19. * I used to be a daily-regular poster, but I haven't posted in ~1.5 years! How are you in this crazy year of 2020? Reviewing threads I've posted over the years, life changes & stays the same, with different & similar things important from time to time. Connections highlight life, with this world becoming smaller than we think sometimes. 20. * June 2019 already? As I suspected in April, life did get in the way of being active more often here. When I had my family of cars & road tripped yearly (2002-2011), I visited over 35 groups & message boards regularly; I cut back a few years ago & now visit irregularly because life has sure changed over the years. I am (thus far) still alive, tho. I have been out of work since last August & job hunting is difficult; I even started my own business. But, a new bright spot is returning to the airwaves! 25. LOL! So true ... luckily we DO know better. Kinda funny ... I stopped at AutoZone a week or so ago to have the codes read on my 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis LS. The associate & I were talking about reading the codes & he said: "These older cars sometimes don't store codes like the newer cars do." I literally laughed out loud ... most of the cars I've owned have been MUCH older than this ... in fact, the 2003 MGM is the NEWEST car I've ever owned! When I told him that, he said, "Well, older cars are in many ways far better than newer." Kicker? He is 20 years younger than me lol!
