  1. Get a donut spare that you can fit in the trunk for a spare tire. Using the spare that came stock is probably a real bear to fool around with, especially if at night or when it's raining. I have a donut, but I really don't keep it in the trunk, which I probably should. The tire I have in the continental kit is just a old raggy tire.
  2. Thundervettee is right - all install from the inside
  3. That's what I did - replacements are available so ruining them wasn't a problem. There are some that you can get from the engine compartment. Tapping them in may work.
  4. This is one of those things you have to play with - trial and error - to get right. Can be frustrating, but in the end you can get it. First take the lock out - then when aligned, add the lock mechanism.
  5. I use Rotella T 15/40 in both of my YBlock cars. The 56 Bird has made two transcontinental trips plus a bunch of other miles with this oil with no adverse effects so far as I can see. I replaced the rear main seal two years ago, pulled the crank to do it and checked all the bearings. No problems there, didn't even change the bearings. I also use it in the modified 312 in my 54 Ford, again with no known adverse effects. I don't have the amount of miles on this car as the 56, but I do use it a lot. The Rotella has a high ZDDP content
  6. Hello -I just joined. I have a 56 Bird, fiesta red. I love this car. Restored in 2011. Made two trips in it from NJ to Oregon (second down to CA), one before the resto, the other after, as well as a lot of the CTCI conventions. It's mostly stock, but have installed a C4 trans. I also have 3 other cars, a 48 Ford street rod, a 1954 Ford Victoria (312 and 4 speed) and a 64 Fairlane (converted the 6 to V8) I hope to be able to help any others with their questions regarding early Birds although I am not an expert.
