  1. Copart has two tc's up for auction this week, an 89 with rear damage, (which I think is fixable) and a 91 with mechanical damage--unknown what type Could be a bargain for those in the area http://www.copart.com/us/Lot/34000925?searchId=1558980158 http://www.copart.com/us/Lot/32306595?searchId=1558980158

  3. Around $3400, I believe, I was in shock at the end of the sale. I had the high opening bid at 1275, and it shot up to 2000 in seconds. Then it went to 3000 in a couple bids. Someone REALLY wanted that car! My max bid was 2050, and at that price, the fees would be-believe it or not $515, Not including shipping, bringing my price to $2565, add another 1000 to ship, and I would be in it for $3600 or so. Not a bargain in my eyes for something sight-unseen subject to any and all faults. The winning bidder will have to pay around $4200 with all fees included, and no telling what freight will cost, way too much in my opinion. Plus, whatever it needs for repairs. Hope the tranny is good on this one. Digger, thanks for all your help! Good luck, new owner
  4. Regarding the above post, "Knowing what virtually the same car just sold for on Ebay" --that car DID Not sell- I was high bidder, and withdrew my bid. I sent out a mechanic to check it out, and it was nothing like it was described. The seller posted "Glamour Shots" of the car, but when my guy sent photos, they looked more like "mug-shots!" It was a very ruff-pup with a multitude of things wrong with it, the worst being mice getting into the car and eating the wiring.
  5. Many thanks to everyone for their advice, and for keeping me from making a huge mistake on this car. I paid a mechanic to go by and check it out, and it was some of the best money I've ever spent. To begin with, he took pictures, and it looked -Nothing- like the ones posted on e bay. The pics must have been 10 years old. Mice had gotten into the car and eaten up a lot of the wiring, very few electrical things worked. It was very dirty, and needed vacuuming . When I asked about the dirt on the floor, the seller replied" I don't have power in my garage to run a vacuum". Duh, cant you DRIVE the car to your house and plug the vacuum in there? Also " the seats are loose because I took them out to clean them" Why take the seats out???? because mice had gotten in them, or because they are replacement seats??? Which brings me to the top,, which was in really bad shape and needed to be replaced. Well, wouldn't the rest of the car reflect the same amount of wear and damage?? Remember, this vehicle was advertised as being garaged. The engine looked bad, but did run OK, and it did drive allright the mechanic said, but there were about 2500 worth of repairs needed to get it road worthy, in Addition to the electrical problems which could cost 2 grand plus if the wiring harness had to be replaced. Lets see, 3200 purchase price + 1250 transportation, + 2500 repairs + 750 top replace + wiring repairs + title and taxes = over $10,000 or so to get it right. Suddenly doesn't look like such a great deal after all.
  6. OK guys, I'm right in the middle of buying one of these-http://www.ebay.com/itm/181818093753?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT( Just sold on bay last Wed. ) Price seems low, doesn't it? HOWEVER, Now the seller doesn't want to use pay pal, and I have to get it transported--$850 charge. He is acting a bit squirrely, says he has a case going with pay pal,etc etc. and is trying to pressure me into sending funds with no guarantee of the cars condition, or even its existence, other than his word. We are trying to come to terms, using an escrow service, where they hold funds until I approve condition upon delivery. Or, he wants a local car dealer to buy the car from him, and re sell it to me for a fee???? Hmmmm..... $3200 seems like a steal, and if it sounds too good to be true................. What are your thoughts on this, and what would you do?
  7. I have read (exhaustedly) all the threads about seat restoration, and am now ready to start on my 89's gingers. I plan on taking the seats completely out, and doing the job during the August heat. Since the seats will be out of the car, and I cant roll windows up to get the "Sauna effect"- will putting them on top of a large steam boiler ( temp around 125-145 f) in a heavy duty plastic bag get the same result? Is hotter better, or is the length of "cooking" time more important? I have all the time and resources necessary to do a stellar job, and would welcome any tips from more experienced pros. I also plan on posting a start-to-finish story complete with all materials, procedures and costs associated with the project.
  8. Have this 89 with 15k actual miles offered to me this week for 5,000-no less. will be in it at $5,400 after all fees and such The good- 15k actual miles-delivered Christmas day 89 to VA owner no snow or rain Still has some carpet protector's film installed on it all books, paperwork, even card to order owners plate all original, Even Has UMBRELLA and TOOL kit! Has been garage kept, looks like pampered mechanically 100%-car is all there and origonal The bad--or sorta Seat recline switch is rigged on d/s, plastic housing is missing--see picture Center console is cracked on top P/s seat switch inoperative Radio knobs squirrely--a bit loose Seats are good, and soft, but have some cracking-no tears, splits not like new or flawless Front of dash has come checking/(leather cracks) noticeable Gas door lever piece missing Some scratches on hood and side has minimal wear on d/s seat from entry/exit over 25 yrs Not too crazy about the color, but it is a really nice car. Not sure if I want to buy it as a keeper, or buy and sell as an investment. Your opinions?
  9. I have a 89 with the 8v motor, but the allure and mystique of the 16v with a 5 speed keeps calling to me. Am looking seriously at purchasing one w/37k miles, ( 16v) in very good condition. Question--is this combination desirable more because of the scarcity or extra performance upgrade, and is it worth the extra$? Am concerned about the dependability and longevity of the engine- and whether it will turn into a money pit as time goes by. What is a good price for this model equipped as such?
  10. I'm new to the TC, but have 45+ years of mechanical experience behind me. On my '89, the previous owner (now dead, I bought it from his estate) has the wastegate valve connected directly to the throttle plate fitting-no solenoid or orifices as shown in the EPA plate., It has the MAP sensor disconnected from the vacuum system altogether. The car seems to run fine, and I was wondering if this was some kind or "off-road" modification. I'm one for connecting things the way they should be-is there some kind of modification I don't know about??
  11. Need a few parts. I am new here. How do I contact you?
