Ok so I just resealed my box.. Good news no leaks and feels great turning to the right.. Bad news I have no power assist turning to the left.. Before I tear back into it any ideas.. Is this a bleeding problem or???

So I know the ratio is the same and I know by 56 the ring gear bolted up like a 57... Is there any reason a 57 set wouldn't work in a 56 diff... Are the spine counts the same.. Same sizes etc?? Just want to make sure cause it's listed as a 57 set

Not to potentially steal this out from anyone but would this work in a 56 special??

I saw the 55 box but it's way different then the 56

Very interesting so is it actually a different part or just a different adjustment.. The picture u linked implies adjustment

Well I tried to order the box through rock auto from pares but they cancelled my order so I have ordered the seal kit from fusick so I guess I'll be diving into her soon.. Also ordered a new rag joint from old cars

Just out of curiosity what would happen if someone converted a manual steering car to power steering but didn't change out the drag link

Yeah I've heard some vague things that they might be but nothing for sure and I don't know what the previous owner did when he converted it to power steering

I still have the manual steering box and pitman arm.. Besides the pitman arm is there anything else I would need to change on the front end to go back to manual steering?

Both my mainly the box..I was debating on trying mares but well I think u know why I haven't yet... The shop manual says it's fine to drive with out the belt..

Anyone drive their buick with the power steering belt removed... Curious if it's anything like driving it with manual steering.. My leaks are pretty bad and I won't be able to address them for a little while.

Ok so I got my pry bar out and got her tightened up I measure 3/8th deflection with at most 1/2 if I really push down..I think I'm good there so hopefully no more random popping

Thanks for that..I have one inch deflection so that's not right wondering if that's causing my random popping sound in take off... Should the power steering be the same 3/8....I do hados manual but left that in storage lol

How tight should the generator belt be..I think it's tight enough but I can watch it jumping all over the place.. Trying to figure out if my random noise is belt related.. Can't drive with the belt off it's to random to know when it'll do it but occasionally on take off I hear a popping doesn't last long can't figure this out..56 322

So on my box someone adjusted it so the adjustor was pretty much flush with the lock nut..I had noticed it didn't really want to self center.. So I just went out to try to loosen it some..I had to really put some force behind the screwdriver to loosen it once it loosened it turned easily about a quarter of a turn and then got tight again.I adjusted it in that free play area... Any idea why it would get tight again while loosen.. I'm assuming the threads are ok.

couple of quick questions.. On my 56 power steering box do I adjust the sector inward or outward to make things tighter.. Also the manual mentions a free play adjustment up top but doesn't show where and I don't see anything obvious does anyone know what they are referring to?

Looking for a healthy leak free power steering gear box for my 1956 buick...
