  1. I do not understand the piston code you have of "E" for cylinder 5.

    Having checked several of my copies (5 of them from 1934 to 1940's )  and all do not  show a letter "E".

    All copies show same info.

    I did copy the codes, and double checked them, unless there is a misprint in all of those years.

    Or someone had a stamp on the piston line and used a stamp for the valve chamber.

  2. info from Hudson Mechanical Procedure Manual:

    Original size of cylinder block is stamped on lower face of Valve chamber.

    The size code letters and piston weight, in ounces and quarter ounces, stamped on the heads of the pistons.

    In addition to to the size and weight marks all original pistons installations are numbered to indicate the cylinder block number and the number of the cylinder in which the piston is fitted.

  3. 1963  with some Hudson Essex Terraplane Club Members from Michigan. In a pickup camper, on the way dropped off one guys wife and two kids in Akron Ohio.

    On the way home with a "very heavily loaded" pickup with four men we started to find tool booth prices significantly higher than cost on way  to Hershey.

    So we tried to reduce cost by bouncing on rear of camper as front wheels went over weight pad, then dashing up to the front and into over cab sleeping area.

    It worked !  we had some lower costs.

    I remember camping on the grass just north of the cement stadium,  they used little International Harvester tags with strings to be put on rear view mirrors to show you paid $1.00 to camp.

    Wife and daughter for several years, we rented a Scotty camper from Eytoners (sp) trailer rental  High Spier several times

    I have many pleasant memories of the years...………………...including heat, snow, floods...…..and finding parts!

    This will be " 55 " years.

  4. Depending on  your ability and  time to be involved consider.......

    Is the inheritance already a one of a kind collection or a larger quantity where purchasers may be looking for useable sets for their engines?

    //////////

    1. Inventory by make ( company ) by heat range  and  quantity

    2. very old plugs often must be identified by "shape- conformation". This may require much research on you part.

    3. Identify if New,  used, or cleaned up.

    ////////////////////////////

    The next part is planning to distribute items sold.

    Selling at flea market like Hershey or via online like Ebay or other clubs such as AACA .

    All can be labor, time intensive.

    ///////////////////

    Consider the effort of delivery or shipping items.

    Think about packaging, shipping, and some times the fun of communicating about products.

    Best wishes with your endeavor.

  5. Rubber tube looks like an inflatable overload  to fit inside rear springs to support heavy loads.

    Center item is a device for a  house  sump pump, to signal when water needs to be removed .

    Star   item is a hubcap item

  6. I recall the one where his radio in the shop had static,  and it disturbed him, when a friend was missing he realized the static was morse code, and the driver in a snow bank was trapped but sending sparks via magneto ( as I recall )

    I will read them all

    Thanks for the lead

  7. I can not speak to the size of a DB motormeter.
    ////////////

    The installation of a thermometer in the housing is quite a job.

    ( comments from my experience )

    The housing has a swaged cap on the end,  carefully have the rolled over edge ground off very carefully. To save the cap.

    The real problem is the compound that is the bedding that locates and hold the  thermometer in place.

    I do not know what it is, but it resembles plaster of paris with some other items to protect it.

    With the proper size thermometer you need to position it's calibration mark to coincide with the mark on the face plate.

    For accuracy, you will need to make sure the Index line on the glass tube is correlated to the line on the face plate.

    If you purchase a different size thermometer you will have to interpolate the proper position using the calibration marks.

    A larger manometer may likely be positioned to high and thus the red manometer fluid could read to high a temp.

    Likely, you may not be able to trust the reading.

    Lots to consider!

  9. I did not mean to confuse with  my use of the word arm.

    The float has a piece sticking up from it that threads into the holes ( loop ends ) of the valves mounted in the cover.
