  1. Would like to buy a 1988 - 1990 Reatta in good cosmetic condition with blown engine. I bought a solid used engine for a Reatta with a compression problem and it turned out the engine problem was fixable. Live in Western WA. Willing to trailer a clean Reatta 500 miles.
  2. Git'r done. Call licensed/bonded local towing companies. Let them know the low bid will get the job and it can be done during their quiet hours. You could cannibalize your car, drive 46 miles round trip (and take a second driver), drive home on questionable tires... and you still have no assurance you'll get'r home. My advice: Factor it out and go with a known cost rather than an unknown amount of $$$. Once home you can tinker on it on your own time. All the parts you may or may not need should be available from a total. I would get as many of the electrical parts as available at one time and change them out. You can test the ones from your newly acquired vehicle later and save the good ones for tomorrow.
  3. Probably sold. PM me if you wish and I will provide the owner's phone number so you can see if it is sold. Two Forum followers said it was worth the $$$ as a project, but they lacked toime and I found a similar one @$750 @ home (Seattle).
  4. Remember though, there are more 1990 'verts than all 1991 'verts and coupes. (Meaning this Reatta is not that rare). What makes this MT one special though is the color* and mileage. The vehicle is definitely in the Boonies, located between Kalispel and Whitefish. Why any one would own a 'vert there with the climate they have is beyond me. Hopefully, it was not driven in the winter (explaining the low mileage). The limited market in the Boonies would explain the apparently attractive price. *Color appears to be Driftwood. Only available in 1990 and only 5% of total produced(?).
  5. Has any one gotten out yet to see this beast?
  6. Walter saw it and says it is well worth the $500. Obviously, I would have to add transportation costs, but if he or Kit don't want it, I suppose I should have it transported rather than going after it. You are twice as close to it as I am, aren't you? (I'm in the Seattle Area.) Want it? Yeah, if a CA person doesn't snatch it I guess I will arrange transport next week. Thanks for the insight. 7. Maybe we should not assume it is a front wheel car. Who knows what alterations were made to it without someone going out to see it?
  8. Salvage title. Jackson NJ, 2000, @ 65K. My best bet is it had rear end damage and someone had some dually fenders available in their back yard. Last six digits of VIN = 900901 I wonder if the oversized rear tires were just for show or if the vehicle had mechanical alterations for racing? Someone needs to snag this 1991 oddity! Charlie
  9. I spoke with the owner. If I were on that side of our Country, I would offer $400 to start the discussion. I sensed he wants it gone. Good grief! Isn't there someone in the area to grab this thing? Charlie
  10. ****************************************************************************** The problem is I have not heard from any one who has looked over the vehicle. The interior could be poor or what else? What you are proposing is I pay $1,000 for a Reatta (delivered to my Seattle Area domicile) with a blown engine and unknown possible problems. I did the math. Without an assurance of the car's condition, I can't bring myself to commit. It should be a great deal for someone in the Bay Area, even if just for parts. Charlie
  11. I would encourage those in the NY/NJ Area to check out this one, list on Craigslist Northern New Jersey... Owner states glass has no chips or cracks. Driver's window broken. Car has c. 105K on it and owner states engine and transmission are good. Sunroof (probably inoperable). Now for the truly strange part: Red coupe w/wide yellow racing stripe. Rear of car altered... fenders added to accomodate very wide rear tires... Rear rims and tires stolen.
  12. ******************************************************************************** Good grief, I hate to see any go the "pick and pull". I received another e-mail from the owner and this looks like the final chapter for the Reatta. I thought for sure we would have a hobbyist in the Bay Area who would be interested. Charlie
  13. ******************************************************************************** Go ahead, Walter. Opportunity knocks. I got an e-mail today from Eric. I unsuccessfully tried to get him down to $400, but he says he can get $500 at any Pick and Pull but he wants it to go to a hobbyist. Contact info: Eric 530.210.0868 Diane had minor hand surgery Tuesday and can't travel now, otherwise I might get it if you aren't interested. Take your bride to dinner tonight in Los Gatos to soften the blow, then take her over to see it. Let me know. Charlie 206.790.9444 uwcharliet@yahoo.com
  14. ******************************************************************************* He does not sound very mechanical. I only know he says the engine is "blown". I have a really nice long block sitting here with 170+/lbs./cylinder, and a retired GM tech friend who says he will put it in for me for $300. It breaks my heart. You need the project. Check it out.
  15. If I was on that side of the Country, I would add it to my collection.
  16. Walter or anyone else in the Los Gatos Area: Time to jump on this one. I have a good spare engine and would love to have this Reatta, but I don't know if it is worth the price to haul it to WA. Any interested Reatta folk? Feel free to contact me for information. Charlie
  17. I will be taking my instrument cluster (intermittent problem) from my 1990 to my guy late this week I will drive my 1988 to give him a better idea of the proposed monitor work. Best to check back with me in 2-3 weeks. Thanks. Charlie
  18. I am in the amusement device industry. For twenty years, I have used one fellow to repair bar top games, pinball machines, and various amusement consoles such as golf games, Donkey Kong, etc. I approached my guy today and explained about the need for a good electronics man to repair monitors, dash panels, etc. on Reattas. The similarity of what he does daily and what I often see needed on the Forum is striking. I have the famous intermittent dash screen (speedometer) on my 1990, and I am going to give him the job. Any one who wants to follow up on my guy as a source for electronic work should check back with me. He is an honest man with a great work ethic, and I know he will not take on a project without the confidence to solve the problem. There is nothing in this for me other than the pleasure of helping others find a proper source to fill a need.
  19. I have to tap on the switch (on my '88 Reatta) for my driver side window several times to make it work. Please let me know by PM (after your needs are met) what you find out about the availability of the parts you are seeking. Thanks, Charlie
  20. ************************************************************************************************************* Hope you are doing well from the total. Would be interested in what parts might be available. Please provide VIN.
  21. I understand I will have to buy parts, but my question deals with methodology of getting into the guts of the critter. Without damaginng the roof, I have managed to open it up a bit on the rear end. I can see the rails. The motor works but even blocked up on the rear, the top won't slide. How do I get to the (not) moving parts from here? It seems like I should be able to manually slide the top back at this point, but despite being high enough on the rear end of the panel to clear the roof, it does not want to slide back manually.
  22. Are you sure he is not located in Roseburg, OR?
  23. Gone? Quite interested if not. Thanks, Charlie
  24. Just paid $645 for a new rear window. Was this reasonable?
