  1. I was looking at your postings and noticed someone suggested 1/2" brass stock. Several years ago I put spears on my Packard's slick running boards to keep the shoe scratches down. I used 1/2" half-round SST bar stock I purchased from 'McMaster-Carr'. Cost was very reasonable. I put the points on the ends with a grinder/file then polished them. Used a thin 3-m two sided tape to stick them down. They look great. This might work for you if you are a DIY guy.
  2. No pic as of yet, will take one tommorrow. I removed a piece of sheetmetal which was 'bolted' to the fenders and a support piece directly behind center grill. It's painted and sits below the two grill pieces. I have no sheetmeal that extends rearward under the radiator from that piece. Am I missing a splash pan? Please understand this is not my first rodeo, but I'm a pilgram with this Zephyr having never touched one until I took possession of this car. Thanks
  3. I got the radiator out of the car today. Man, it weights a ton. Took it out the bottom with a floor jack as I didn't have the grunt to go out the top. I will have the radiator looked at by a local shop to see if it's worth saving. I haven't pulled the dizzy as I'm gun shy for now. I'm fighting a battle with whoever put this car together for the museum I purchased it from. Sheet metal screws instead of machine screws, nuts that should be welded to the sheet metal but not. What was this guy thinking? Now, on to a question. I have a spare set of terminal plates. I know I saw someone somewhere who rebuilds these but can't find them. Help? Thanks again.
  4. OK, ready to remove the distributors. After removing the two wires to the coil and the vacuum brake line, is it just remove the four bolts in the housing and pull off? Uh I forgot, I need to get the the distributor caps off too. How does one do that?
  5. Boy, what a job! But it's off. Hints to doing this job... Take an anger management class, then take it again. Get a 1/2" offset wrench, grind down the outside till it's almost paper thin. Take the anger management class again. Get the bolt (one of three) you are going to take off in the 9:00 position (looking from the radiator). This allows you to pull up not down (much easier). Spray the fan hub with something like "Kroil". Take a big slug of 'spider bite medicine', better known as Kentucky straight bourbon, because the anger management classes didn't prepare you for this. And there you have it, if you didn't get the bolts off, at least you have a nice 'buzz'.
  6. Sounds like the same problem I had with the water pumps. I have the modified wrench on hand plus the crows foot box end. There's an ice storm going on right now and everyone is hunkered down. Hopefully will get greasy in the morning. Thank all.
  7. Here 'tis...I hope Nope...that's a pic of the car, well heck.
  8. I just finished rebuilding/repairing the motor in my '38. I was not interested in keeping it in orginial condition as it is hidden in the dash but I do need it to work. So I used the modern 'stuff' in my garage to get it running. Good luck.
  9. Ok, now that the water pumps have been removed and shipped for rebuild. I want to remove the radiator for testing/cleaning and if necessary, replacement. The books say to remove fan, that's all, remove fan. How in the heck does one do that. I see three maybe four 1/2" bolt heads facing the block, and other than that I can't figure out how the fan comes off. Are these bolts the 'key'? Thanks again.
  10. I'm going to leave them off for two reasons then. 1. They hard to find and expensive. 2. I live in the south-east and will only drive it in warm weather. Thanks everyone.
  11. The pumps are off but I think I can mock up a couple of pics with pump, bolts, and tools.
  12. Got the water pumps off yesterday for rebuild. Boy, those bolts were a 'bugger' to get to. Didn't find any baffles.
  13. Never mine, I got them off. Used the box end crows foot on some, an offset wrench from my deceased dad's toolbox which I ground down the outside face a bit on others, and the bottom inside bolts can be gotten to with a socket and extension. Thanks.
  14. Do you guys run thermostats in your v-12's? I took my hoses off yesterday to get after my water pumps and didn't find any. Thanks
  15. On to the leaking water pumps. Decided to pull them today to ship off for rebuild. Well, I thought so anyway. The bolt heads are hidden behind the pulley as far as getting a 1/2" wrench or socket on them. The only thing I could get on them, the ones I can see that is, is a box end "crows foot". The book calls for a "S-220 water pump spanner wrench". Anyone care to tell or show what this beast looks like? Better yet, what they use in a garage of today to get them off. Thanks.
  16. The 5/8" hole the what's in the dash. Or in other words, the barrel of the control is 5/8" in diameter. Let me know. Thanks.
  17. I need the dash mounted wiper vacuum control for a '38 Zephyr coupe. Looked at Ford and Chevy's, they are 7/16" in diameter. I need a 5/8" diameter. Anyone know where or what brand would have this control in 5/8"? Thanks in advance.
  18. Looked, no see picture!?
  19. Take a look at page #21 of "Boos-Herrel's catalog. It will show you the firing order of both distributors plus the layout of which wire goes where. The catalog is online. Good luck.
  20. Can someone tell me the length of the wiper blades so I can order some? Thanks
  21. Thanks. I just posted a question in the tech. Section. I'll see what kind of response I get. I have been monitoring this forum and the tech. Section seems to have a lot of activity. I don't know if the Lincoln section of this forum is for the lucky guys who have other guys that turn their wenches for them or not. I'm going to drive this thing one way or another. As original as I can restore it, or a tail dragging, tire shredding machine.
  22. Can someone tell me how much vacuum I can expect the v12 Zephyr engine to make? Health unknown. Just finished repairing the wiper motor and one wiper tower, after plating both. I have my test vacuum pump set at 8 in. Hg and their slow. Thanks.
  23. Drove the whole thing this fall with 12 other street rods. Lots of "stop and looks" from the second highest Indian mounds to a piece of the actual trace. It is a neat drive, took us four days. Not as beautiful as the "Blue Ridge Parkway" but you don't want to do that in winter. Plan on getting off early as we had a problem with deer at dusk. A must 'eat at' is the "Loveless Cafe" at the Nashville end. We at breakfast there, the meal their famous for, I'm still full! Have fun.
