  1. You want me to go and check it out? The crash happened on Kingston Pike about 3 miles from my home in Knoxville. Running 'Shine' is a time honored tradition for us 'Hillbillies'. Unfortunately, making moonshine has gone to 'pot'.
  2. I'm wondering....would it be better to post questions about restoring/rebuilding or whatever you want to call it in the Zephyr section or Technical section of this forum? Thanks.
  3. I was hoping I could get this seal beam thing to work. After speaking with several of my old car builder buddies I fear it can't happen. I have been told that with the lens in the seal beam, then the lens in the headlight bucket just won't work together. Oh well, I understand their's a law still on the books in my home town that anyone driving a motor vehicle must have a rider on a horse with red lantern in front of him. Guess I'm gonna have to build a barn.
  4. My reflectors are a mess on the '38. Has anyone figured out a way to adapt a seal beam headlight to these guys? Thanks
  5. Colin, I finished making the tower gaskets today. They fit nicely but...there is a vertical component to them I can't get around with a single piece of rubber. Did you build them up with multiple pieces of rubber to 'get it right'? The window side of the towers looks like it needs to be quite a bit thicker than the front side. Am I correct? I am using 1/16 butyl rubber. Thanks
  6. Thanks for the information you provided. When I get these 'dog gone' wipers working I plan on taking on the lighting/electrical system.
  7. I just found this on another forum and it maybe the ways to go. Model A Ford Garage ~ Cleaning Silvered Plated Model A and B Reflectors maybe even a tech tip.
  8. I don't know yet as I've only looked through the lens. The amount of light being emitted make me not want to drive after dark. I'm dealing with other issues right now (see my postings). I took most of yesterday just making the pieces that hold the wiper towers to the cowl. Today the gaskets and so on. Thanks.
  9. Yes, that also. 1. The fuzzy strips that encase the window opening, both inside and outside. Can they be made up from general replacement strips commonly seen at car shows or do they need to be manufacture replacements made to fit that one sized window? 2. The felt strips inside the side window guides. Again the same question as #1. Also can the guides be remove for repair or are they welded to the door? While we're the the subject. The rollers that go into the channels at the bottom of the window which 'roll' the window up/down. Are they made the same. Mine are different. The front one has one 'hump', the rear has two. Is this correct? Thanks
  10. Instead of a candle how about the soot from an acetylene setup with the oxygen turned off? Thanks.
  11. The headlight reflectors are yellow/discolored and light output is dim at best. I have read that the reflectors may be polished with 'lamp black'. As I am fresh out of lamp black;) I was thinking of using baking powder or something like that to polish. What have you used to shine these puppies up? Thanks.
  12. Colin Spong, Thank for the info. I can stop chasing my tail and start fabing. The chrome shop is "Atlantic Coast Plating" in Athens, TN. Five of the parts were pot metal which I was told drove the price up. Thanks to all for your input. Now on to ....well, everything else.
  13. The towers will be back from the chrome shop tomorrow or Tuesday. Will take pic and try to post (I've never had much luck at it). Man, is chrome plating expensive or what. Five small pieces and a gear shift lever...$543.00. Ouch!
  14. Boy, I don't think that looks anything like a '38. But then I've never seen one (this is hoping someone who knows will jump in!). Thanks very much taking the time and effort to scan the gasket. Gee wheeze, redoing the Zephyr is harder than 'woodpecker lips'.
  15. I also have a "Steele" catalog and have found no reference to them in it. Have not spoken to them so a call won't hurt. I don't know if the Ford part will fit either. I tried to look at the catalog and also Soft Seal (online) but they don't have the pics to compare. 65Starfire, if it's not to much trouble to scan them. Email me at kennardb@knology.net
  16. John,I already have their catalog but called them just to be sure and Narragansett doesn't carry it. Boos doesn't list it either. Thanks
  17. Anyone know where to source the wiper tower gaskets for a '38 coupe? Thanks.
  18. Thanks for the pics. My 1946 "Motor's Auto Repair" manual does not cover this procedure. I'm trying to capture a flat rate manual to see what it has.
  19. On to the doors...the "fuzzy" strips on both doors are shot or missing. Can someone tell me if a Ford p/n or a "Steele Rubber" p/n will work for the strip(s) on the doors? Is there a strip on both sides of the glass? Can the window guides (front and back) be removed to be refurbished? Lastly, is there a "U" shape strip at the top for the window to close against for anti-rattle? Thanks as always.
  20. Thanks guys. I have no idea how "tired" this motor is but I'll try 20-50.
  21. I already run "Brad Penn" in my street rod Packard. I am also planning to run it in the original V12 but I don't know what grade and weight to purchased. I "cooked" an engine several years ago running modern low ZDDP oil. The cam (Comp Cam) was trashed after just 3,000 miles. The ZDDP question has been beat to death on other forums I visit, but for me it's not worth taking the chance.
  22. I need to know the grade and weight of engine oil for the v-12? Do you guys also add ZDDP to the oil to get the zinc levels up for flat tappet engines? Thanks.
  23. Does anyone have a contact for Mr. Jay Fisher? Thanks
