  1. I could never afford or store all the cars I liked so instead I collected parts and lots of literature. I felt I could own a small piece of automotive history without needing a big warehouse to store cars. I am finding now I went a little overboard in collecting literature but a lot of it is finding new homes to people on this forum. It was fun and relatively inexpensive. Same could be said for anyone who collects hood ornaments, nameplates, radiator emblems, ect. We found enjoyment in them and help provide a service by keeping them out of the trash and into the hands of those who want them. Terry
  2. On the more expensive side of project cars. Ford and Chevy are more wallet friendly as there are more of them and parts are more plentiful. Terry
  3. Not often I get to put one past the master!
  4. Actually there was a 1950's era Mustang. It has two wheels and was built in California. Also the first US motorcycle to have telescoping forks. Terry
  5. According to my 21 year old son, we are missing out by not including the youthful interest in Euro cars like BMW and MB or even the Honda NSX. Our young people are not just limited to choosing from mostly domestic makes like we were in our youth. Their interest span the whole world of autos as seen by what many of them are driving now. I'd put the Pontiac / Saturn 2 seaters in a future collectible list. Terry
  6. Lee, Sent you a PM with the information. Thanks, Terry
  7. Hello Jim, I have sent a e-mail to the address you have listed above. Terry
  8. I do not do repairs, however I was involved in the electronics world for many years so here's some ideas. Your clock may have a display that is separate from the driver section of the timer / display controller. If that is the case then a new display can be installed if you can find one. If the display is built-in to the driver / timer electronics then it gets a bit more complicated as you might need to find the complete assembly to get it to work. Each segment is controlled by the driver electronics that basically turns on the required segments to make the correct time appear. Look for an electronics repair shop, the kind that does TVs, radios and the like. They should have more insite into the electronics. Parts availability and cost to repair are something to consider. In this day of throw away devices, old spare parts and people to repair things are getting hard to find. Terry
  9. If you are interested in purchasing a Motors repair manual, let me know as I have quite a few that I am looking to sell. I will give you a very good price on one as I am all in favor of helping a young person get started in this hobby. Send me a Personal Message (PM) and we can discuss. Terry Boyer Lititz PA

  13. Thanks for the Pierce Arrow comment! It would be interesting to know if the "Keystone Special" was a dealer's idea on how to make a custom car for the local market. I guess we will never know for sure. Terry
  14. Over on the Buy/Sell forum there is a nice 32 Plymouth and a fine 1936 Ford rumble seat coupe. Both are in your budget and appear to be ready to run and drive. Do either of these "speak" to you? If yes, then you know the rest is easy. If no, then the search continues. With enough $$$ anything is possible, just ask Jay Leno! I had a 1937 Dodge 1/2 ton truck as my first hobby vehicle in the pre-internet days. Finding body and trim parts was not very easy. I would go to Hershey and pass rows and rows of Ford parts in my quest for Dodge. It got frustrating at times and made me question my decision to buy an off brand. Just something to think about when looking for a first car. Your budget should allow you to get a very decent car that does not require total rebuild and make you happy with your choice. If you like the thrill of the hunt, go for an off brand, if not Fords will look very good. Terry
  15. In my collection of old automobile stuff I have a large real photo of an early automobile that is marked 1917 Keystone Special. The inscription appers to have been put on the photo's matting when the picture was framed. The inscription is hand written and looks correct for the timeframe. From what I can find the Keysone automobile went out of business in 1915. My photo was taken by a professional photographer in Lebanon PA. I did find a reference on line that a Keystone automobile was first made in the eary 1900s in the Lebanon PA area. Just wondering if any of the experts out there have any thoughts on the possibility of a new Keystone automobile existing in 1917. I will try to post a picture of this photo soon. Terry
  16. I found my catalog shown here in a used book store in Morgantown PA nearly 30 years ago. At the time I had no idea what a Matheson was but my interest in PA automotive history enticed me to buy it. It took a while to get more information about the car company in the "pre-internet" days but I was frequently working in the Scranton area at that time so I was able to get some local information about the company. I still have never seen a Matheson in person so this book was as close as I ever came to seeing or owning one. My copy will soon be going to a new home in Virginia. Terry
  17. I've finally decided to sell the rarest automotive literature piece I have ever owned. Its a catalog for the 1913 Receivership Sale of the assets of Matheson Automobile Company of Wilks-Barre (Forty Fort) PA. The company started operation in Wilks-Barre in 1906 and closed in 1912. The receivership sale took place in May 1913. The catalog contains a description of all the items for sale such as the property, equipment, parts inventory and most importantly a very descriptive listing of the 40 automobiles still at the factory at the time of its closing. This automobile factory later became the home of the Owen Magnetic automobile company. The catalog measures 10" by 6 1/2" and contains 128 pages of information about the sale. Much information is listed about the factory and the equipment contained as well as the autos themselves as can be seen in the pictures attached. There is some corner wear to the catalog as shown in one of the photos. There are no other marks or writing in the catalog. Given the rarity of this item and its historical value I am asking $75 plus shipping for it. Money order, paypal, and personal checks are accepted for payment. Local pick-up is also can be arrainged. Please PM me if interested. Thank you, Terry Boyer Lititz PA 17543
  18. Forum rules require more information like price, location, ect. Thanks, Terry
  19. This Western Auto Supply catalog for a store in Reading PA dated fall and winter 1929-30 is in excellent condition for the year. It measures 8 1/2" by 5 3/4" and contains 128 pages of auto parts and supplies for the motorist of the day. The cover is in color, has no tears and is firmly affixed to the rest of the catalog. There are ads for tires, spark plugs, oil, hood ornaments, motometers, tire chains and even camping gear! I am asking $25 for this item which includes shipping in the US. Money orders, personal checks and paypal accepted for payment. Send a PM if interested. Terry Boyer Lititz PA 17543
