1. What I have found is that the front bumper I have is not Plymouth, it has the dip in the middle section but also has a centre fixing hole and one either end on the return. (could be Citroen Traction)

I have found this photo of a 33 listed on an internet auction house. The fixing covers that Chris mentioned are clear to see on that car.

  2. Thanks for the reply Lynn, I'm fortunate in the fact that my repair is below the recessed bead therefore the panel will be conical into the 1/4" rad. I have most the tools to do the job, stretcher/shrinker a part built wheel etc. What I do need is the dimension as in Pic 6 or from the bottom of the gas tank hole down to the end of the 1/4" Rad. Your angled edge to the rad in Pic 1 looks quite different to my Pic 3 ??

  3. Hi Chris, thanks for the quick reply, I have looked at the panels Floyd produces but feel there's nothing there I can't produce myself plus the fact I would be throwing more metal away than using, that being said, brilliant panels though. Your comments on the cross member, is that the piece in pic 2 ? or are you referring to the panel immediately above the gas tank. About the drainage from the trunk lid, my intention is to totally redesign that area, on my body there is nothing to take the water that runs off the lid itself in-conjunction to the side channels that you refer to.

Finding parts this side of the pond is very slim, according to POC there is 1 other 33 and 3 34's in the UK.

  4. Rust got the better of the backend, this is the only area thats missing on the whole car, its a PDX rumble seat 1933.

What I am trying to do is establish the approx dims to make good, eventially there is a rear valance which covers the

    gas tank and bumper irons.

Picture 1 is another car with the same rust problem. Picture 2 is my trunk rear floor panel. Picture 3 shows where the previous

owner got happy with the angle grinder and cut back to good metal. Picture 4 is where I have laid-up paper template of what is needed to be replaced on the rear inner fenders. Picture 5 is Pic 4 with the paper removed. Sketch 6 is the info hopefully someone can come up with, Im guessing that the ? dims is about 3", but I would like to make it right.

    Thanks for looking.

  5. Before these rear fenders make their way to the restoration shop I would like input on the placement of the tail light stands. I think the passenger side has not ever had a tail light and I trust the location of the step pad holes. The driver side I think has been changed. I would like to fill the un wanted holes and have some type of template to locate the correct holes. Thanks in advance.

post-72422-143141957038_thumb.jpgProbably too late but this is mine today inner edge is end of panel.

  6. OK several things. Plymouth never used the covers only the underneath part. I guarantee that is the way it was. The green '33 is not a true PC. It has a PC bumper but is a PD. The sidemounts are a dead giveaway as well as the rad But notice the straight PC bumper has been mounted with the brackets you show in your original photo. I mentioned that those brackets were most likely made for locally produced bumpers. This is the answer. Your PD should have a straight PC bumper on it mounted with your brackets. Our brackets over here are more curved. Like your rear ones. Apparently bumpers did not come with the knocked down cars from Canada or the U.S. and the brackets were made up locally with out copying ours over here. You're trying to copy our PDs over here and we're trying to give you directions to do that. BUT I think your car came the way the green PD came and that's how it should be restored.

Firstly the serial no starts with a 2 build between 6th and 12 of September 1933, the build card decode sheet states the model is a 6 (Deluxe) Model code Engine # Prefix: PD-PDX, Plant Detroit

I may have confused things a little by posting the images of the green car which was used by a South African company in its annual report. My intention was the type of view I am looking for of the bumper fixings and the fact that I am missing sidemount covers complete (all I have is the holes below the belt line and on the fenders. Time will tell what the car looked like in its early years in SA (if I'm lucky) currently 2 different car clubs are researching the history for me.

Are you saying that Detroit builds for export were knock down?

  7. Thanks for trying Chris, I do understand what you mean about doing a trial fit first. There are lots of unknown about these bumper blade fixings, obviously the bracket from the horns have to be bent down to bring them parallel with the ground, then they have to be bent to give the correct stand-off from the leading edge of the front fenders. I'm going to put these on hold until you can give me dimensions you are happy with.

post-72422-143141953395_thumb.jpg These images are of a early 1933 PC, I'm going to looking for side mount covers some time in the future. The bumper fixings are totally different as is the blade not having the dip in the middle.

  8. That looks a tidy patch panel, I think they all go through there, not quite sure why? Regarding the back seat dilemma I have the same problem but added to that mine has the rear window winder on the graduation mechanism, The seat base is on sliders to adjust the driving position, the parcel shelf has a thick cardboard type layer which I feel is original as is the roof bows and chicken wire.

  9. The cover was not used on Plymouths. That cover N.C. Industries sells is for a De Soto Chrysler as the base and cover were used on other vehicles. (And they never were chromed. Only painted black as far as I know.)

I appreciate that knobless's old car may not be correct but it clearly shows the cover plates in chrome.

  10. Ok you have confirmed that the rear bracket is correct, I now need to get the shape right for the front. My front bumber blade has the dip in the centre as in the my avatar, I could do with a shot from above of the front fixing showing the cover plates that Chris mentions.

Main thing is we are making progress.

    Many thanks

  11. Don't forget this cowl was used for right hand and left hand drive. That's why the 2 big cutouts for the steering column. Whichever side was used ,the other steering column hole was covered by a plate held by 2 screws. As for the Plymouth logo plate, there should be 2 holes for it about 4 " apart and ,either below it or to the side of it, another 2 small holes about 2" apart for the 'body number/model' ID plate.

This is the right hand drive version of the firewall, now I have my body off the chassis.

  12. These bumper brackets came with my PD but I only have 2, 1 back and I think 1 front. The rear one on the top looks as if it will fit the 2 holes just in front of the back rear spring hanger, but I am totally lost where the lower bracket would fit. I do have the front bumper blade, but want to make sure its PD before I make a duplicate opposite hand bracket.

Trusting someone will recognise them, thanks for looking.

  13. What I am looking for is overall dimensions of my 1933 Plymouth PD Rumble Seat Coupe, at present my car is a rolling chassis with the body off.

My reasons are that I am offered a covered trailer and I need to know length, width, height and weight before I commit to it.

    Many thanks for your help.

  14. Hi Chris, I have the rumble seat complete out of my 33 coupe at the moment, what I don't have is any of the interior trim. My coupe was originally trimmed with leather to the seats this has since be reupholstered in leather cloth but I am hoping it will give you a point to start. The backrest follows the shape of the trunk lid on the backside. Give me a couple of days and I will post pics for you.

    Regards Tom

  15. Thanks 1935EB the colours have come out great the only thing is that since posting last I have come across a PD in the same colour as mine is now, albeit mine hasn't seen paint for a good few yrs.

It may well be a well know car your side of the pond but I just think it looks right.
