  1. Mercury Grand Marquis, '73-'77 would also be a good choice. Driven properly, fuel consumption isn't too bad. Same w/ Full size Cadillac, '77-'78. A variety of engine displacements were available in both the Mercury and Cadillac. Stay away from the 4-6-8 engined Cadillac cars.
  2. I used pennies to plug/block the fuel injector holes on my VW Quantum when I ditched the Bosch set up for a Weber. A bit of red RTV and the original injector housings to hold the pennies in, and that finished up the job. Got to use what's available.
  3. Dave... Thanks for the reply. I thought they were for '58 Edsel. I'll properly mark the box now. David.
  4. AdChi... Thanks for your reply. I am also thinking upper arm bushings, but really need a true clarification. Anyone w/ an old TRW catalog to reference? Thanks. David.
  5. Not seeing an applicable forum( I know what it is, not for sale, etc.) to put this request, here goes. I have a NOS set of control arm bushings that I purchased for a restoration some 35+ years ago. They were purchased for a 1958 Edsel Citation. I need a verification that the part # is indeed for the control arm bushings on this car, and whether they are for the upper control arms, or lower control arms. The part # is: TRW 12164. Can't find a TRW reference to this old part # on line. Thanks for your help. David.
  6. I have for sale, a pair of rear door panels/cards for a Chevy Nova. These panels came from a 1976 Nova 4 dr.. Color is Firethorne. The panels will fit 1975-1979, but not correct for other than 1976. The opanels are in very nice condition. The window rubbers are in very nice condition, no splits or cracks. Vinyl on the panels is excellent, as well as the vinyl backing. One panel has a couple of minor imperfections at the very bottom edge (see pics). Most clips are present on the back side (one or two might be missing on each panel, but the mounting holes for the clips are in good condition.). I also have the water shields for the panels. If you have an interest in these panels, please contact me via PM, or this posting. Asking $25. for the pair, plus shipping. May be picked up at my location (north central Alabama), or I might be able to meet you if the distance isn't too far (a short road trip). Rather these go to someone who can use them, than they go to the dumpster. Been around here too long. Thanks, David.
  7. I have purchased products from McMaster-Carr for use in the restoration of my 1960 Edsel. Among the products were sheet rubber products, gasketing materials, foam products, and some jute/felt. Products are excellent, and the service is exceptional. Received some of the products before I received the bill. That's great service! David.
  8. I've been to this lot. There are a lot of Chrysler products there, not just Dodges. There are usable parts, but finding someone to speak with about those parts is another matter.
  9. Craig Gillingham... Thanks for your reply . I thought it might be a wiper motor, but wasn't sure. I have just come across the service manuals for the 1204, and the 1118 cars, so I'll go through them and see if the motor applies to either model. I got the parts from one fellow who had a '59 Aronde, so I feel it is probably applicable to Simca, even though the parts are newer than his '59. David.
  10. Found this item while going through a recently acquired box or two of Simca parts. I'm assuming this is a Simca part...possibly a wiper motor? Anyone in the know? More pics to follow. Thanks, David.
  11. keiser31 has provided the answer to my question. Thanks, David.
  12. keiser31....Not at all what I thought it was. Thanks, David.
  13. Found this in my stash of parts. May be for the grill area. Application, year, and model please. Thanks, David.
  14. I found this in my stash of parts. I believe it might be a piece for the grill area. What year, model, and application please. Thanks, David.
  15. Some small bit of progress on the seat re-covering. Got the canvas on all of the seats this evening. Still awaiting the cotton batting to arrive. Should the first cotton batting layer be glued to the canvas, and subsequent layers of jute and batting just be laid on the top? Or should each layer be glued to the previous? Thanks, David.
  16. After looking at the suggestions and replies,I believe I am going to reupholster the seats as follows: Seat cushions, from the frame and spring up: canvas wrap, cotton roll batting, 1 layer jute, another layer of cotton row batting, muslin wrap, and finally the cover. The seat backs will be the same, less the jute layer. I might use a thin foam layer before the muslin wrap, but I'll try it without first. Only the seat cushions received a foam layer as original in the 1960 Edsels. Backs did not. I don't have a problem with doing the layers and cover for test fitting a couple of times to get it right. When it's right, I'll then stretch and hog ring the cover. Thanks to all for your replies and suggestions. I'll keep you updated on the progress and final result. David.
  17. I am having a problem with the "unwanted" application of the trailer brake on my 22 ft. car trailer. The trailer brake appears to be working properly when applied. The problem occurs when the left turn signal is turned on. The truck/tow vehicle is a '99 Ford F350. When the left signal is turned on, the left trailer brake is activated. Not enough to lock up the wheel, but only enough to cause a drag and some mild overheating. No problem at any other time. As I understand it, there is a "left turn tow relay", and a "right turn tow relay" on the tow vehicle, somewhere between the signal switch and the connector box at the rear of the tow vehicle. My mechanic has done some electrical testing, and believes the left side is getting a backfeed of about 6v and causing the trailer brake to activate slightly. I have found a new relay ($13), but cannot locate the relay on the tow vehicle. Wiring diagrams do not show the location, or acknowledge existence of it. Can anyone tell me the location of the relay(s)? The dealer says that Rangers, F150 and larger, Explorer, and most Ford SUVs have the relays, but they have no idea of location, nor have had the problem to come into their shops. I am assuming that "Ranger"s applies to the larger, earlier series trucks, rather than the compact trucks. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, David.
  18. Progress on the seat refurbishment. Just awaiting samples of the roll cotton batting, before proceeding.
  19. jackofalltrades70. Thanks for your reply. I am using burlap over the spring assembly/frame, then canvas, some type of foam, the cotton batting, and finally the cover. Would sandwiching a layer of jute between two layers of the cotton batting provide more density,as the current type of cotton batting is less dense than that used in the 50s and 60s? If I do the "sandwich" thing, I'll wrap the "sandwich" in muslin to assure that it won't slip apart, before the final cover goes on. Thoughts? Thanks, David.
  20. Commodore, Rusty_OToole, c49er, trimacar, Thanks for your links, and responses. Our "local" upholstery shops were less than helpful, and all (total of two, one furniture, one auto), said that they use only foam in refurbishing furniture/ auto seats. I've requested a sample of the roll cotton batting from one of the suppliers mentioned, and should have that in a few days. Hopefully, the project will progress sooner than later. trimacar, PM sent. Thanks, David.
  21. Does anyone have a source for the old type cotton batting as was used in car seats of the 50s and 60s? Most shops today are using foam, and it just doesn't seem to hold up to everyday use. I'm refurbishing the seats on my 1960 Edsel daily driver. Thanks in advance, David.
  22. AMC/Rambler? Seems I've seen some w/ the hash marks around the perimeter of the housing on Ramblers. Or my memory is going bad....
  23. I've located a very nice either 90 or 91 Reatta. Recent repaint (burgundy) and stripes (gold). Interior (burgundy) above average. Will post the vin for those interested, but need it to post in the proper forum or location, if someone will tell me where to post it. I still need to see the owner for more specifics. Thanks, David.
