I thought about driving it home  - and the seller suggested it too - but I'll take the safe route and ship it here. This car is not going to be thrashed about but coddled and hugged for as long as I have it.  I'll have to clock into local Buick events now that I have one (I had a '55 Buick Century and a '50 Packard coupe in my 20's but no way near the calibre of this '41).  Car has some good upgrades too like electronic ignition, electric fuel pump (as well as the original set up), new wiring harness and quarts clock internals.

Thanks again all for your encouragement and advice, particularly Neil and Matt. I think I got a good one based on your comments.  Regrettably, I don't have many good pics of it (yet).

I'll keep you guys posted. Is there a registry where I can get a sense of how many '41 Roadie coupes are out there? Or how to contact owners of the same car?

    Peter

Peter: there is a list of the ones belonging to members of the BCA. If you are not a BCA member PM me again and I will send you a copy of the Bugle with info as to how to join. Those cars are also accepted as full Classics by the CCCA.

You guys have been great. If all goes well, we'll be getting to know each other. Thanks so much for your help and opinions.

Did that car come out of Rochester NH? A friend of mine had one that color and they are so rare, I can not help wonder if it is the same one. His would have been restored about 15 plus years ago. It originally had some rosy on the rockers and down by the body to frame sheet metal. I know he spent a lot more money on the restoration , than what the value was at that time, but it was a labor of love. I would love to know

  3. This thread is wandering a bit off course.

BCA members should all vote for candidates, that they know will have the best interest of the bCA at heart. It is interesting that we always get back to judging , while saying no one wants to do away with judging. Some existing BOD members are mentioned as being "Pro judging". This thread is not about existing BOD members, it is about BOD candidates . Three members say they have no intention of doing away with judging,  just changing it.  If we have three candidates , who all mention judging in their bio and make reference to "changing it" enquiring minds would like to know, Change it how? Some would say , there is too much emphasis placed on judging.  I would say in what way?  (if you are going to go back to parking, I think everyone's eyes will just glaze over)

I am often referred to as Pro Judging. *I do not think that is a bad thing. The BCA has used the AACA system to create their own 400 point system and it is one of the fairest possible ways to judge a car. I have often been refereed to on the Internet and the forum as "Judging only". I am not even sure what that means. I tour more than I have my cars judged, and I use my BCA "Senior Gold" car on tours. It has never seen a trailer.

I am pro judging. I did support three candidates in a letter. Are those three the only choice for everyone? NO!. Vote for the candidate( s) that you feel have the best Interest of the BCA in mind !!

I hate to see it too.  Not cheap is interpretive since in this case just having an option to authentically replicate the interiors was so valuable.  Hampton Coach ?  Or is that all part of the same company?

It is all the same company. LeBaron Bonney started with all Ford products and then they bought out Hampton Coach, which at the time was a Chevy supplier. They did started to replicate some Buick stuff, while still Hampton catch and then after the merger, they went big into Buick stuff. I have also bought the fabric for a 41 Cadillac that I am restoring there.

  5. A real shame for the hobby. They were / are located in the Biddle and Smart Carriage factory in Amesbury MA. I always found them to be very helpful. They were not cheap, but they had what you needed, and that has a price tag sometimes. They were really helpful to local Clubs and willing to let groups go through their facility. When the Minute Man Chapter , BCA held the 2011 Danvers Meet , they stored all our goodie bag stuff as it came in and then stuffed our goodie bags for us. I for one will miss them.

Every car leaves the factory in homogeneous forms in different colors. Nature has such a neat random way of taking them back, no two alike.

The deserted cars that I have photographed in New England have a totally different "patina" than those I have photographed in New Mexico or Arizona or even California. I love the effects of the dryer climates, paint will be burned off, many times in layers and the chrome will still be perfect.

If the ambulance is based on a Buick then someone here does need it in a hurry 😜

Don’t have to worry about snakes nor hornets here at this time of year...and none of our snakes are poisonous in this neck of the woods anyway.

We don't have many poisonous snakes here in New England either, but lots of hornets, come summer. That ambulance is in fact a Buick circa 1946 thru 48. It would be a monumental restoration project though.

  8. The tours and events at this Year's national Meet in Midwest City OK will provide many BCAers an opportunity for a National Meet with a route 66 flavor. The BCA has never had a National meet in Oklahoma City before. This locale had never been on my radar before, but after working with Pete Phillips and his crew and having first hand info into the tours that are part of that meet < i am psyched .

The host hotel is full, but there is plenty of room in the near by hotels. (all providing BCA members a discounted rate). The Mayor and Chamber of Commerce City are working with the BCA Committee to put on one heck of an event. It takes an extraordinary amount of work for a Chapter to put on a meet such as this and Pete and his crew have gone over the top with planning to give you a great time. Do yourself a favor and register now. (Operators are standing by)

Thanx much for responding. I appreciate open mindedness!

I have discussed your suggestion with the National Meet Committee members and all think it is a great idea. They will be handed out starting this year in Midwest City , when you pick up your registration packet. The Committee thanks you for your suggestion.
