Guest
My Pontiac used a much larger stat with ears on it to fit in the water manifold. I could never locate one so I made two washers to fit where the lugs went with a hole sized for current stats. At that time GM was using 180 in the summer. Later while I was still working with GM they started using 190 degree stats. Several people had seriously disagreed with me but I have been using a 195 stat the year round for over 30 years. Never had to add coolant or had problem even crossing Death Valley.
ckowner
I have a 1930 DeSoto CK and I used a thermostat from a mopar v8 that was the same over all size. I drilled a few 1/4"s in the disc around the thermostat to allow for minimal coolant flow to prevent the radiator from overflowing when the thermostat finally opens. Works great!
