WTB 1928 chrysler radiator surround and lourves & cowl lights

Recommended Posts

I am looking for a 1928 radiator surround, one with opening lourves, I have just about exhausted all avenues here in OZ so am hopeful there is one somewhere else in the world.

I am also after a set of cowl lights for a 4 door sedan, with mounting brackets and any interior trim, as I have none at all.

If you have anything that may help please PM me.

There is a topic in general discussion with photos of my radiator.

1924 - 1928 Chryslers were not set up for louvers. You may need to look for 1929.

It is also possible you may have a 1929 radiator with the shutter control on a 28 chassis.

The letter starting the engine's serial number will tell you what year / Model you have.

Photos would also help

1924 -28 all had similar radiator shells, 4" or about 10.25 cm

Notice the longer hood and the much thinner radiator shell on the second photo (1929-30).

The 1928 radiators did not have the bellows to control radiator shutters, as  can be seen on the top in the first 2 photos.

Yours is the 1929 /30 design, which would be the thin one with the bright chrome bead.

Many times the year of a car was determined by the year it was first sold. A car built in 1928 but first sold in "29 could have been considered as a "29, while a car built for the "29 model year first sold in late "28 sometimes considered a 1928.

To make things worse Chrysler made some changes throughout a models production run.

Cheers,

I have been messaged with an offer of radiator surround and lourves, and possibly some cowl lights. In relation to the bonnet, can you advise the length of the bonnet as I now have one from a 29 Tourer and one from what is supposed to be my 30 Model 66. Both have gills in side and cut in top for radiator.

thanks

I don't have the dimensions but the 29 Model 65 should be about 34 inches or 86.33 cm.

The hoods (bonnet) for the 1929 Model 65, 75 and the Model 66 all have different part numbers.

Someone else may have some parts to get dimensions from.

Have you found out the model of your car ?

Engine number, serial number, wheelbase, or a photo of the dash may also help to ID it if you don't know.

28 Chrysler, I don't have a fedco plate for the body, its an Australian built Holdens Motor Body Builders body and it has the stamp Chrysler Sedan 30U or 30C on it, that's all I have, I don't have an engine, I have a 1925 chassis and this is confirmed by chassis number on rear left hand side.

I now have a 1929 tourer chassis so am trying to piece this car together the best I can with what parts I have and can find here in OZ.

Other threads have said I have a 70 series body, some say its a 75 series due to radiator, so as you can imagine it is very hard to identify exactly what body I have.

Looking at picture of 75 series cars it appears they have the smaller rear quarter window while the 66 series appear to have a larger quarter window. The quarter window is only about 1 foot wide and high.

Thanks for all info

Mcgoo, here is some info on the Model 75. The 70 series shutters did not move. They used a thermostat in the head.

Cheers hwellens, I have just gone and got a radiator surround with opening louvers and it fits perfectly, so one part of puzzle solved. I measure a series 77 bonnet and it was 37 1/2 inches long. The bonnet I have is 36 inches long and same as the 29 tourer bonnet.

Hopefully someone can help with bonnet sizes to narrow what model I have a little further.

All info is greatly appreciated as I am probably the only one in the world with a 1929/30 Chrysler Bitza.

Looking at that info you just posted the car that looks like mine is the 75 Royal sedan, as the back window is small. I noted that the gills on the bonnet has a slight curve to the top of them. the bonnets I have and straight at top of gills.

I have attached a link of a 1930 series 66 and it has the small back window but has the same style of radiator but with out lourves and the bonnet is straight at top of gills.
