Guest
Someone said that buick made some trucks. If so could someone tell me what year and what type of truck was it or was it some sort of custom. BUICK RACER
There were some trucks made in 1915-18, but they don't show up in the records, there were a few others made out of cars, and/or export bodys. The Sloan Museum has 2 Buick trucks, and all the Buick records/archives are stored there. Try contacting them if you have a particular interest at sloan@tir.com
The Old Guy
Buick also made some pick-ups in 1940. They were built for use by the factory ,and were made on Roadmaster chassis. They were supposedly crushed ,but one that I know of got away, and was in the Flint area for years.
Joe Taubitz
BCA 1308
BDE
Fred Rawling
Buick made 4 cyl. delivery cars or trucks in 1923 and 1924. The body styles were screen side canopy, pannel truck, pick up and canopy with open sides. They are neat looking trucks. I almost owned one. I am still looking for one. Dave@Moon
You should post this question on the AACA general forum. You'll get definitive answers on something like this in short order.
Seventy Years of Buick lists truck production as beginning in 1910 and running through WW1. Also a truck line was introduced in 1923 for 1 year only.
Clincher
The Owl's Head Transportation Museum at Owl's Head, Maine, has a 1908 Buick Truck. They also have a great website at http://www.ohtm.org/ where a picture of the truck may be found. Fred Rawling
Correction to the post from Dave Moon:
Buick did make a 4 cyl. truck in both 23 and 24. Reference for this info is from the 1930 master parts book and the 1923 and 1924 illustrated parts books.
Dave@Moon
That's not me you're correcting, Fred, it's George Dammann (author of most of the Crestline series). I'm sure it's not the onlyerror in there. He's quite specific that Buick made no trucks in house until 1910, so either he's wrong there too or the 1908 is a conversion. Guest scott mich bca # 6619
I saw a 1942 Buick Pickup truck at the 1997 St. Louis BCA NAtional. The person that owned it said it had belonged to an exectutive that worked at Buick at the time.
I don't recall if he siad it was originaly built as a pickup truck or if it was converted. Perhaps someone else spoke to this individual.
Scott
Fred Rawling
Dave, You are correct about the errors in 70 Years of Buick. Even with the errors, it is a nice book and it does have a lot of good information.
