space saver spare

Key thing is to match the outside diameter of the "donut" spare tire to the existing tires on the vehicle. Sometimes, you can find them at salvage yards or some tire shops. They are on a special wheel and usually inflate to about 60psi.

To me, "Space Saver" spare means the one from the later 1960s and into the 1970s (as I ordered with my '77 Camaro) which has a special inflator canister and unfolds from the rim when it's inflated and then folds back up as it deflates (you've got to watch it happen to believe it!). If I hadn't ordered that option, I would not have had NEARLY the trunk space in that car.

I might be "old fashioned", but I like these two spare tire alternatives to "run flat" tires. Having seen a run flat tire's inner sidewalls after a 40 mile drive (at 55-60mph, fully in the stated operating parameters while "flat"), you'll need a new tire anyway.

Just some thoughts,
