A tough one! I need a Muntz Jet parts car. Leads appreciated.

Recommended Posts

I need the help of the old car nuts out there to try and ferret out a parts car for me. Among other things,my 52 Muntz Jet needs a front aluminum cowl, windshield frame (Du-Vaul style), fender skirts, and carson top. I know this isn't gonna be easy so any leads would really be appreciated. When you try and restore weird stuff you have to be prepared for a long hunt .

Darn, I just crushed my last 3 Muntz parts cars......seriously, persevere and you'll find what you need. After 25 years in this game I'm still amazed at the parts that show up, oftentimes in the unlikeliest places. Looked for 4 years for a set of wheels for a 1936 Thorne Gas-Electric Milk truck we were restoring. Ran ads, called every wheel expert on the planet, etc. No luck. Finally, one fine Fall day a farmer whose property I pass twice a day on my way to and from the shop happened to leave his corn wagon outside overnight. You guessed it....THERE WERE MY WHEELS

Having an oddball myself, I can appreciate your quest. I took my car to a bodyshop near my place. The next day my bodyman called say he'd found me another Amphicar. I went and looked at it. Here is a description of how it was when I found it.

Laying against the passenger's side was the fuselage of a P-38, the other side had a early Whippet, Willy-Knight and a mid 50's outboard engine. Behind it was a pile of Honda motorcycles. I mean a literal pile about 25' high and 30' across! In the end this lady auctioned of her cars (200+), planes (150+), a Sigorsky Helo and even a 50' missle!

Best of luck to you!

John
