dep5
1950 Oldsmobile 88I think the globe surround rings stand out higher on a 1950 as seen on the left, the rings intersect/cut the globe in half. .also the clear plastic seems to be domed more on a 1950;the one I am questioning, on the right, has a different view of the globe and the surround rings. Also, the chrome retainer seems to have a wider band in the area where it retains the clear plastic.I need one for 1950 and the one I have seems newer . .however I looked and see two different buttons for 1950 Deluxe wheel on this site http://www.fusickautomotiveproducts.com/products.asp?dept=55 Edited October 22, 2014 by dep5 (see edit history)
Bleach
A side by side shows a bit of a difference. Maybe a side profile might help?I'm thinking it might be a 52/53 now.
dep5
Here are side views of a 1950 Olds horn button and the 561477. Someone has a parts book that would identify the button in question...maybe the 561477 is a part meant to supersede an older part. The chrome retainer seems to be a little wider in the area where it retains the clear plastic. Oldsfan
The cap in the box with the flatter dome is for '49. In '50 they kept the blue background and gold globe and went to a more spherical dome. In '51 they kept the blue background but changed the globe to silver. In '52 they changed the background to silver and kept the silver globe. I believe the reference on Fusick's site about 2 different '50 caps is an error. One of those listings is for just the spherical dome, but it pictures a '49 cap.Paul
dep5
Paul, thank you very much. The part number 561477 was not found in my 1950 and Prior years Olds Chassis book and I have no newer books; I wonder if the 1949 button part number was superseded by the newer number or maybe it got reboxed somehow. dep5
I would like to trade this NOS 1949 horn button for a NOS 1950 horn button. Thanks
Oldsfan
I finally remembered to research this. My '63 parts book lists 561477 as fitting '52s with deluxe wheel. It shows '50 and '51 with deluxe wheel using part number 558342. No mention of blue or silver background or gold or silver emblem. No listing for '49. Probably discontinued by '63. I'm thinking you've got a '49 cap in a '52 box.
