disc brake conversion - Electra

Recommended Posts

I'm planning to do a conversion to disc brakes on my '69 Electra conv. Before I hit the internet and bone yards, I was wondering if any members who have been down this road could offer any advice or guidance.

Thanks

Shooting for factory parts will leave you vulnerable to expensive parts in short supply. In addition the 4 piston calipers will require care in choice of wheels. Meanwhile some members have reported the disc brakes do not enjoy big advantages over the drums brakes. If it were me, I'd keep it stock.

Yep, you could keep the old brakes... and add a drag anchor.

Look at this site: http://www.scarebird.com/6928.html

They offer a kit for the spindles that will use all OEM/reman parts. You can probably get it all done for under $600 with a dual master cylinder. You definitely want to avoid the original '69 vintage four piston calipers and you will require disc brake wheels.

Cheers,

I recently bought a disc brake kit from "The right stuff detailing" came with all new stuff from booster down the line, was reasonably priced (under $600) and although there is some argument about drum VS disk the disk always wins in a brake fade situation. You can find them online, if they are coming to a car show near you they do show specials and free shipping. I have not done the install yet as I'm waiting on springs and some other parts. I also am putting on SS lines I got from them.

Original is nice but if you plow into the back end of a Lexus your original will be history.

I would argue that the Lexus would be history and I'd be buffing the scratches out of the front bumper <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />

I know that's an exaggeration, but there is some truth to it.
