ailyes
My grandfather put together a kit car about 1905. I have a picture I think is it that I am attaching. Does anyone know anything about this car? Thanks.
1937hd45
Another great photo! That is an Orient Buckboard, built by Waltham Manufacturing in Waltham, Mass. up until 1907. They were sold fully assembled, I've never seen mention that they were kits. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Chris Bamford
Great picture -- that is an early Orient Buckboard, 1903-4 vintage. In 1905 they changed to friction drive and a (slightly) more elaborate body.As things went downhill for Waltham and their Orient Buckboard in 1907, they started to offer the car in kit form. I own a 1906 Orient Buckboard (12 year old photo attached), and have done considerable research on the brand. There is no indication that the earlier model was ever sold as a kit. Chris Bamford
Sorry, I think that last photo was too large for easy viewing. Here's a period ad showing the optional $25 child seat...
