zman
Ok Booth I think the reason is they think your grand fathershot "LINCOLN HA! Any way some things you should know about replacing a head lightswitch, one that matches butter scotch color or any other fordcolor, that has the button you push for the knob that pulls outjust like your Z. You can buy a later 12 volt from any of the flat head fordsuppliers it looks the same but a little larger then the Z'sIt will have the dash reostat in it, which has to be removedbecause it's made for 12 volt systems,if you don't it shortsout the lights when using it for 6 volts.I hope when you replaced your brake lining you used the originalwoven lining?Zman

Rolf
At the risk of being seen as one of Jeff's hated "price gougers", I want to revisit the subject of brake shoes, I finally got to them, and inventoried them, they are mostly brand X, and some really wide 12" ones that otherwise look like Z's, any one know what they might be?? There are no complete forward and reverse shoe sets of the same kind of lining, some different bonded shoes, and 2 new re-riveted forward and reverse shoes, dark gray lining, anyway $10 a shoe, no exchange necessary, quite a few used cores too, and Phil, if you need any parts for those latches, I think I saw a couple in the "pile"
zman
Rolf B , listen up Jeff! Ok the brake shoes, they should be marked with a "P" for primaryand a "S" for secondary, made by either Bendix or Delco, Some of the early ones are possibly Lockheed for the Mechanical 36 to 38 Lincolns. Those large ones are for the Big Lincoln 33-1/2" X 2-1/2" The Z's shoesare 11.95" X 1-3/4" wide for both primary and secondary Ford used the same lenths on bothshoes Except originally the primary shoe was moulded and the secondary shoe were Woven If you can find a set for both axles with the woven and moulded linings I'll buy those.Possibly the revited ones are original and maybe marked with yellow/red and black for secondary and just black for primary, The material for those linings are"Ferodo" for Woven, and "Thermoid" for the primary shoes.Zman <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />
Rolf
I think these go back further than all those intricate colors Z, I just go by long and short shoes, the linings are shorter on the primary, and longer on the secondary, but there are a mis-matched set of 4 long and 4 short bonded shoes, and a L and S in the new riveted. I would be willing to send them to you on approval, if you could use them great, you can cut me a check, if you can't, just send them back, they look to be good quality linings, write me off forum at rolf@got.net By big Lincoln, I trust you mean '49 and up? I kinda thought they might be for them, I think there is a matched new set of them, same deal if you know anyone that can use them, will tease you with a whole bunch of 9" bendix shoes too, it do go on
