...but I don't have any Information about it. I wanna know when this model is built, how many were built, how many still exist etc. smile.gif

My Grandfather says it's a '61, but I heard that this type is only build from 64-68. So what model is this car?! The body is by "Fisher" I guess, because there is a Plate by fisher..: http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/7012/18bday0213rr.jpg

I want all information about it, my grandfather won't tell me anything, dunno why :P But I know that it's got a 6.5 ltr v8 @ 382 hp. It goes definitly >200 km/h!!!

As you see, the numberplate is german...hope you'll understand my english smirk.gif

I want every Information about this car (pllllllllz). I would appreciate to see more pictures of that model (...because I haven't found one @ google :-( )

many greets from germany :-)

*edit* Well, it is not a Super 88, i guess. http://www.442.com/vcs/1900_1963/king.html This is a 88 and not a 98.

The interior looks almost the same, but on the right side you'll see it's not the same: http://img383.imageshack.us/img383/1329/18bday0012qh.jpg

and its not the starfire...the starfire has 2 stripes on the hoodscoop and the 98 just one...http://www.442.com/vcs/1900_1963/ronmiller.html

I NEED YOUR HELP!!! I think it must be a 98, but I haven't found anything abouta 61 98 convertible ó_Ò

You do have a Ninety Eight convertible. It is a 1961. Sometimes Olds referred to the '61 98s as Classic 98. Don't know why, it was a one year only thing.

I do not have production numbers in front of me, and can't tell you how many are left.

I guess it's a 6.5 liter, over here we go by cubic inches and yours is 394, but I think I've seen it referred to as 6.5 somewhere else. You're way to high on the horsepower. Starfires had the highest horsepower available in an Olds and they were at 345. I think the 98s (and Super 88s) were 330.

The wheels on your car are not stock. Neither is that fake spare thing on the trunk lid. Chrysler used to have those. They called them toilet seats.

Other than that it's a very nice looking car.

I'll try and get back to you with production numbers

Paul

But I think the Horespower are real...my grandfather is a mechanic and his other cars got more hps! I think he did something with the olds engine, too. I will give you a diagramm of the power of the engine soon (hopefully).

*edit* Didn't found a Diagramm but this sign: http://img129.imageshack.us/img129/971/nommot65unnamed5jw.jpg

Well, he fixed some stuff. For example starting the engine by remote, starting the honk by remote, unlock the doors (and open it with a little motor in the doors).

Yeah, the car is definitly not 100% original, but he made his "dream-olds".

Thanks for the info Oldsfan. So the car was just built in 61? huiuiui!

Is this 98 similar to the starfire?! Or is the starfire smaller? DO you've got more pics of '61 98 and starfire convertibles?

greetings from Germany

Olds made 98s from 1941 through 1996. They made 98 convertibles from 1941 through 1969. But for some reason they called them Classic 98s for '61 only. They called them all Starfire 98s in '58. I think they might have called them Classic 98s in '52 also.

The 98 is on a different body from the Starfire. 98s shared bodies with Buick Electras and Cadillacs. The Starfire was based on the 88 body, which was shared with the Buick LeSabre and Invicta, and all Pontiacs and Chevrolets. Starfires had higher horsepower engines than even the 98s had. Plus there was the bucket/console interior and all the exterior aluminum trim.

I doubt there are too many of those cars to be found in Germany, or anywhere else in Europe for that matter. The Ninety Eight convertible is actually harder to find than the Starfire (3804 vs. 7800 built,) but overall not quite as desirable. The Ninety Eight rode on a 126" wheelbase, vs. 123" for the Starfire & 88. Furthermore, the rear overhang on the Ninety Eight was an additional 3" longer, for an overall length difference of 6" vs. the Starfire/88. For the record, the horsepower of the Skyrocket engine found in the '61 Ninety Eight & Super 88 is 325, with a 10:1 compression ratio, while the Starfire is 330 & 10.25:1 (bumped up to 345/10.5:1 in '62.)

I have seen very, very few of these cars restored correctly. I guess it's easier to just do a custom, which unfortunately isn't my cup of tea. The factory deluxe wheel disks are notoriously difficult to mount & keep on the wheels, so they're often replaced with something aftermarket. Narrow whitewalls were only available on the Starfire in 1961- the correct whitewall width for your car should be 2 1/4". Other than the pimpmobile spare tire on the trunk, the car looks pretty good. Do you have any interior pics? The original interior on the Ninety Eight convertible is arguably more elaborate than the Starfire. While the Starfire had a monotone interior, that of the Ninety Eight converts was tri-tone with leather inserts- very difficult & expensive to recreate today.

The VIN is found inside the driver's doorjamb & would reveal the final assembly point of the car. Also, if you can post a picture of the cowl tag, or at least report the info on the tag, it would be possible to determine the build week, body plant & original paint, trim, & major options. The tag is located in front of the windshield on the driver's side. Feel free to PM me if you like. I'll try attaching a pic of mine.

Chuck

Good lord that's a gawjus automobile.

I was explaining the 57-63 wheelcover attachment with a bud at Carlisle last week, since there were plenty of 59, 60, 61 and 63 deluxe caps there in varying conditions. What a shame that, as beautiful as those wheelcovers are, they were such a PITA to deal with. The discussion started with "Where's the valve stem hole?"
