I just Realized that the Good Friends that I have met on the Packard Forums are the Same Deep-pockets Bums that have been Outbidding me on Packard parts on eBay.

Oh well, Competition (Not Love) is what makes the World go round. LOL

You can find a deal once in a while on E-bay, what I really dislike is some of the resellers that do nothng more than increase the prices, you can get a few good deals out there, just have to know what the price is from Kanters, or Max or other and bid less. I picked up a set of fender skirts for the 51-56 for under $15, and I have sniped a few items in the last few seconds on more than one instance, hope none where from here, and have driven the price way up on a few things ,like a $10 hubley Packard up to $35 in the last 2min..

same here The things I've sold on ebay haven't been worth the drive to the post office

I've never bought anything through auction on e-bay, but discovered that Faxon Auto Literature has a site of their own on e-bay. It's not really an auction, but an on-line catalog. You can "bid" on a piece of literature--starting at 1 cent below the cover price! But the "buy-it-now" prices are reasonable. Shop manuals, owners manuals, etc. A very nice repro shop manual for 46-47-48 Dodge was $20 plus shipping.

JT,

I've been generally satisfied with the items that I have bought on eBay. I like the Buy-it-Now feature. Recently have used it more than bidding on items. Several years ago there was a bidder that I just could not beat. I tried sniping and bidding high amounts and he beat me every time. It got to the point where if he was bidding on an item I wouldn't even try. I have sold a few books and literature items on eBay and generally made about 25 cents an hour doing it. But I did get rid of the stuff.

Rebutal:

"a man with no enemies knows not prosperity"

annonymous.

I can do little bit better than 25c/hr. What are u expecting???? $25/hr????

eBay is the greatest liquidation facility that i know of. NO SCHEDULE to follow other than shipping. NO ripping and running or phone calls to be bothered with. No paper work.

Bottom line is that its a sales force that is available 24/7, world wide, when ever i damn well feel like selling and ON MY SCHEDULE. With that kind of flexibility i don't need to get rich from it. Just turn a CONVENIENT profit.

Wish my other escapades were as convenient.

Hey did you get that $1.95 gas door chrome trim thing I told you about?

Ebay over all rate a 75 on a scale of 100 for me. Mostly people are just blowing money on stuff cause they get carried away. I've watched certain items like NOS, as is voltage regulators go for almost the same as modern guaranteed repro ones for sale. Some of the stuff for sale is easily obtainable at the local auto parts store for less! Dice-shaped valve stem caps, fuzzy dice and things in that category. 6v tractor or universal coils are less expensive than other mail order places. Anything that specifically says Packard costs more even if there are equivilants for other applications.

People bid way over the value of one #3 car and another nice car gets insulting bids.

Rick, if there some part that you want and I can get it for you, at a reasonable price, and you NEED IT to get your car on the road, I don't want to make a profit, because maybe down the road I'll be in the same spot and you might be able to help me out, I thought that this was a HOBBY AND NOT A BUSINESS, for what its worth I don't think that Packard patrs in general are not all that pricy, they seem to be fairly priced, compared to say 55-57 chevy parts, a freind of mine who has a 57 chevy with the 283 with dual quads, has the air cleaner for this setup PAID 2500.00 for the AIR CLEANER and this is not nos!! check out what parts are going for 55-59 cadillac's there two to theree times what we pay for our 55-56 Packard's and they don't even have TL ride!! BTW look what we pay to keep our daily driver's on the road, I hope that GREED will not DESTROY the the old car hobby. Joe

Twitch, yes the nos voltage regulators on ebay a lot of times are more than you can buy a new one at the parts house for, but if you really want the original Autolite or Delco look you're going to pay more. I bought a couple of nos Autolites for about $15 or $20 which I thought wasn't bad

Thanks for the Offer Joe.

I usually get good items, at a good price, on eBay.

I just had never thought about the guys on the Forums being the guys that are Outbidding me, before.

Looks like I may be needing a new Headlight Switch for the '56 Clipper, Now. I haven't seen one of those on eBay for a long time.

Randy,

I think I'll try to make the Tool but If I can't fix the old Switch I may be looking for a Source for a replacement Switch? I'm going to take it apart and try to Repair it but I know that type switch is real hard to get back together without breaking something and it may be too burnt to repair.

Yes, I got that. Most stuff is over priced but if it is a needed part then I grab it. Who knows the next time it will come around.

I am mostly getting chrome parts. Cheaper to buy them then to replate them. I figure I'll put all the extra parts in the trunk and hit some Packard venues and sell them cheap to recoop some cost.

Yes, 'DoorSills' is Don Kuehn and I think the number is 973-423-1196 or 904-0270 (at shop). I'm not sure about the area-code but it's in NewJersey.
