New Packard Book?

Nothing listed on Amazon under that title or name. So, don't know what the story is. Amazon usually has the MOST esoteric books listed, even those out of print. So, maybe it doesn't exist???? I subscribed to the r-mac monthly bulletins before he died and they were interesting if a bit "homemade". Had info not contained in the Packard Bulletin.

I, too, looked through Amazon for the book and came up dry. The did have the Ward book listed, so it's available. Another one that came up on a "Packard" search was:

Packard Motor Car Company (Images of America)

by Evan P. Ide (Paperback)

List Price: $19.99

There was a special deal if you bought this with the Ward book. I'm tempted, because I've always wanted the Ward book and could get a look at this one too.

Also, there was a Hemmings book on Packard.

Just some thoughts for Winter reading for all of us without heated garages. <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Good to see the old Starkweather thread mentioned! I still plan to follow up on that Packard connection. The research is in a pile here somewhere... <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />

Interestingly enough, I just today got that book from a used bookstore. The back contains a reference list of "survivors" that appears to have been taken from the R-Mac lists. I need to read the book and see what errors pop out at me. If nothing else, there are some interesting pictures in it though.

Regards

Jase

Packard A Chronology is perhaps a nice book to thumb through and look at the pictures etc. but unfortunately it is full of errors of facts. It was poorly researched and contains many errors. Just don't use it for a reference.

The Kimes book, however, is another story. Known for years as the BIBLE of Packard books, it comes very close to earning the name. More recent research has proven a few conclusions to be in error, but not many. The chunk of history the 16 or so authors bit off was indeed big and thus knowledge is bound to advance some as years go by. The book was originally published in 1975.

I just published a 1948 To 1950 Packard history that some should be interested in. 300 pages of facinating history on those cars commonly called the "Bathtubs" along with several hundred pictures, 200 of which are color. I have had 100 sent to me for supplying autographed copies, 60 still available as of now. Anyone wanting a copy email me at RJNeal0000@aol.com Robert Neal

AS of 11/24 there are 45 left.

Robert

What all is out there book wise that a young guy wanting to learn about Packards should look into getting? I really like the 1935-1940 cars the most. I know I will have to get the Packard bible sounds like a good read.

The book list noted by Mal on Packard Info is as good as you will find. Incidently, Packards At Speed is still in print, although it may not be for long. Both it and Master Motor Builders are still available through me. Packard 1948 To 1950 is not yet lin the Packard Info list as it has just now hit print.

As to the best overall, cover everything, Packard book is concerned, it has to still be the Kimes edited book. Most other Packard books have specialized on various cars, years or topics and add further information the Kimes book just could not get in, since it covered a huge span of years and cars. Robert

I still have Robert Marvin's "Packard Chrolology" book in my library. I agree with Robert Neal's assessment. While it has been many years since I have read it, I remember that I was thoroughly disappointed with the book. It had several errors and, what I disliked the most, it repeated itself many times throughout the book. Because of the repetition, it probably could have been half the size it is. Other than that . . .

All the books I had shipped to me are gone. They are now only available through Dwight Heinmuller at packardcars@comcast.net

I am starting on a new Packard book, Packard 1951 To 1954. There is going to be another good story and new information. I am starting a new thread to chase information so be sure to look at it.
