1938 Packard super 8, not mine.

Could be a decent project if you could live with the seats and the engine wasn't bad (But there was likely a reason it was taken off the road decades ago).

Well, priced low, at least, maybe a shade lower and would sell as a parts car.

 

1938 was an unfortunate year for Super Eight engines.  Poor metallurgy led to cracks in the block, usually between valve seats.  One of those “it’s happened, or will happen” things.

 

To further complicate the situation, the metal crystalizes at the crack, and is not repairable.

 

Before replying “anything can be fixed”, my block was at one of the best metal guys around, and after an hour of inspection he said it was a goner.

 

1937 blocks are fine, 1939 blocks and heads are fine and have some cooling improvements over the 1938.

 

Both blocks work on 1938 crankcases, the 1939 is a different water pump, very difficult to find the pump (read that to say “I need one!”.
