42 cop car

What year did Ford actually start manufacturing police cars or "Interceptors" with heavier-duty components, including the generator to handle the extra spotlights and two-way radio?

Before the 1950's most police cars were two door models. Philadelphia and New York both used two door cars. I am guessing that if an arrest was made, the arresting officer would call for a wagon to pick up the prisoner. It seems odd to us today because we are so used to four door police cars.

The CHP (California Highway Patrol) incorporated 2-door models into their fleet into the '90's with the addition of Ford Broncos in the '70's, Dodge Ramchargers in the '80's, Mustangs in the '90's, and a smattering of Camaros and Firebirds in the mix.

The majority of the fleet today are four-door models. However, some CHP executives drive "unmarked" 2-doors, but not on regular traffic enforcement detail, only in assisting with emergencies and for special travel requirements.
