flyingelvis386
Hello. Trying to identify another carb, pictures attached. Bowl cover stamped Rayfield Marvel, body stamped R-1 and 10-368, cast iron updraft measuring 2 3/8” center to center mounting. I’ve spent hours trying to identify without any luck at all, any help with this is always appreciated. Thanks, Drew
wayne sheldon
Likely after-market. The throttle linkage is adaptable. Manufacturing style indicates post WW2 (could be late 1930s?). Target market was probably tractor or industrial engines. Similar carburetors are sometimes used on earlier antiques where the original carburetors are not available or cannot be rebuilt to be reliable. carbking
Wayne is correct about aftermarket; this is a Marvel/Schebler type R carburetor. However, the target market was car and light truck customers who were more interested in price than in quality. Marvel/Schebler lists the type R as a "competitive" carburetor in their catalogs, and suggests that, when possible, the better quality type TU is sold instead of the type R.
