60s GM Fan
So my new 59 has the common rust through on the lower front fenders. Does anyone recommend a patch panel or should I opt to just find some fenders?
EmTee
How bad? Pictures? If the area is flat any decent body guy should be able to weld in new metal. Used fenders may not be much better...
60s GM Fan
Car arrives later this week so I'll be able to gauge how bad it is. I'll post pictures when that happens.

60s GM Fan
It sold via Ebay but I'm waiting for the buyer to send me a check. Hopefully that happens this week.
60s GM Fan
Both sides will need to be patched. One side to a lesser degree but the drivers side is all the way through in a section about 1 1/2 inches by 4 inches. its not terrible but its noticeable. Does anyone have a source for the corrected gauge steel so I can get this patched over the winter?

Shipping a used part can put dents and dings in it that may never come out. Make it a last resort.
EmTee
If the rust-through is just the outer skin and the support behind it is OK, welding-in a patch should be straightforward. Buying another fender will probably still involve fixing (as Bernie noted) and then you'll have the additional cost associated with removal and installation.
60s GM Fan
I'll tackle it in the spring. I had her detailed last weekend and boy does she shine! Not bad for 64 year old paint!
