Electra63
Anyone have a tip on how to measure the oil pressure on my 63 Electra with 401 engine? I was going to tap into where the oil pressure switch is located but it's pretty inaccessible down at the back of the engine Anywhere else I can try or is that the only option? I want to measure it prior to dropping the oil pan in case my oil pump is not developing full pressure as apparently these engines need 40psi for reliable long term operation

NailheadBob
How much oil pressure did you have? Bob
Electra63
Hi Bob. Sorry for the late reply I had low 30s when first started but when it reached temperature it fell to low/mid 20s at idle which I was not happy about Long story short I recently dropped the oil pan (see my other thread) and found the idler shaft had worked it's way out of the pump housing so I changed the pump I now have a consistent 36 psi even when warm so replacing the pump gave me about +10-12 psi. Now I can sleep better at night. 🙂 Edited May 18, 2023 by Electra63 add photo (see edit history)
Smartin
24 PSI hot is still very healthy idle pressure. 2
