Morgan Wright
This was taken in 1924, but the car wash was opened in 1914. They used the word "mud", but we all know what mud was in 1914. 3 1
Morgan Wright
Most cars in 1914 were rag top touring cars. You can't run those through a modern-style car wash.....this is the best you could do. Wash the wheels and get the mud off the underside, good to go!
Lawrence Helfand
Most roads were still dirt across America before WW2 and mud was plentiful and horse poop dwindling. Horse poop is not that sticky with all the grazing fiber holding it together and does not cling much to surfaces.
Morgan Wright
It doesn't make a good "second base" as other animals.
60FlatTop
You know that water swirls off to a side stream settling tank where the sludge was dipped or scraped out. Even the chain drive scrapers were messy. Some of the old guys that came in for morning coffee cleaned tanks like that. But the majority worked in production at the fertilizer factory. I was the uppity young'un who fixed the chain when it wore out. Technical job.
