Les Murray
British made Britannia 1914 Friction drive. Using drive from Paper Pulley company but having poor results. I note all the US makes had an Aluminium plate flywheel. My Britannia has a steel flywheel. Will this make a difference to friction/ slippage/ heat absorption? Any help appreciated
Rusty_OToole
Cartercar made a friction drive car about the size of a Model T. They had an aluminum flywheel and a pressed paper wheel running against it. I don't know how much difference steel vs aluminum makes. All you can do is try it and see. I don't think it will make enough difference to worry about.

One of our club members had a CarterCar and used special rosin paper on his flywheel. He enjoyed passing other cars on hills because he never had to shift.
