  1. How can I contact Chris Bamford? I do not ave enough points to do so here!
  2. Fascinating stuff! Just relooked at this stream again and the latest detail on using Neoprene, also brake lining rivitted . Great pics! I have found the paper pulley company good but I was still getting too much slip. I have now made an Aluminum ring ( replacing the whole paperpulley material) with correct hole centres but 5/16, 8 mm smaller diameter than required to which is bonded an 8mm brake ling material. The choice of material is critical. A much older foreman at Industrial Brakes in UK advised it should be a "cotton fibre " brake lining. I have fitted it and it so far (200 miles) it is working very well. I have also made up the same aluminium ring and had a polypropylene 8mm bonded to it. I have not tried it yet. Note Cartercar 1911 advertising 50% gradient no problem. See pic of 1914 Brittania sole survivor. My flywheel is steel! All others seem to be aluminium; is this a problem? If so why? Look forwards to chat!
  3. Thanks Phil. I suspect my misaligment was either a design fault or when restored from rusty bits in |New Zealand 40 years ago they got it wrong. The side force is pushing the friction material to one side and wears very quickly. It has never worked well. It has a great 975cc ( C Inches?) V twin engine and can go very well. Any other advice very welcome. My drive plate is cast iron but I see Metz Carter, Sears etc all Aluminium. I love the account of 1914 Metz and the Grand Canyon expedition. I find getting grip in the low gear on a steep hill is poor. Again thaks. No info available here!! Les Murray
  4. My friction drive car is not a Metz. It is the only one in the world a 1914 Brittania ( British) The friction drive wheel center is mounted about 1 inch higher than the center of the engine driving plate and it is producing side forces wearing out the friction material. Question; is th Metz friction wheel center in line with the center of the driving plate. Appreciate any advice Thanks.
  5. I WISH TO DISCUSS A FRICTION DRIVE PROBLEM WITH METZ A OWNER OR MECHANIC.( NO ASSISTANCE IN IRELAND!)
  6. Thanks Marl and Rusty. What is Special Rosin Paper? and how does it stick to flywheel>
  7. British made Britannia 1914 Friction drive. Using drive from Paper Pulley company but having poor results. I note all the US makes had an Aluminium plate flywheel. My Britannia has a steel flywheel. Will this make a difference to friction/ slippage/ heat absorption? Any help appreciated
  8. I OWN THE ONLY BRITTANIA BRITISH FRICTION DRIVE CAR 1914. I READ OF FANTASTIC FRICTION DRIVE ON METZ 1914 LA TO GRAND CANYON. I AM STRUGGLING TO GET REAL GRIP ON LOW GEARS. I HAVE PAPER PULLEY CO DRIVE. MY FLYHEEL IS STEEL NOT ALUMINA WILL THIS MAKE A DIFFERENCE. OR MAYBE I NEED MORE PRESSURE? ALL ADVICE WELCOME.
