What transmission do I have?

Could also have had a Turbo 375 which was a little lighter duty unit than the 400, but was found mostly as a HD option behind 350 engines.

You have a good transmission. They're almost impossible to destroy. Trouble is, a 400 has been obsolete for over 15 years now so it's almost as bad to get one done right as a Slim Jim. Younger tranny guys esp don't seem to understand them. But then they're used to working on electronic transmissions and transaxles.

The 400's were so good, Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar (Rolls-Royce too, I think) used that design in their cars. They couldn't come up with a better one. I have a 400 in my truck and wished I had one in my 455 powered LeSabre. I have a 350 that was "built" by a specialty shop and has held up so far. I'm told I can get away with it as long as I don't dog it too much.
